LOL - damn right!!

Just got back from a drive to Rotorua with a friend. He was in an e36 325 manual and me in my e39 528 auto. We both filled up in Palmy and again in Rotorua. Guess what - he used almost 6 litres more than me for the trip!!! I was rather surprised, 'cos I thought the 5 would guzzle a bit more. I was wrong. We were in convoy the whole way, so the drives were identical. I averaged 10.1 l/100km on the way, according to my OBC. Always learning.

I find it funny that a guy my age can't spell 'museum' or 'gardening'. I mean, people of my vintage were HOUNDED at school for poor spelling. It was a punishable crime in those days.... To consistently spell poorly was booking a caning at high school. Anyone spelling really badly, like the ones the mods here correct, in order to make posts readable, would have ended up in a 'special class' at school. The assumption being that they were mentally handicapped. Times constantly change.

You have my deepest sympathy...

LOL - mate, if you keep on eating like that, you'll end up like me - with a 1 pack puku - porch over the toy shop - not a great sight!!

I hate people who hate people who have a problem with tinted windows.... BTW - almost ALL BMW windows are tinted....

Happy to contribute via $$, but as a senior member (in terms of actual years under the belt), not into racing, customising, determining top speeds, drags, drifting or doughnuts etc, that's likely the limit of my involvement. I just enjoy the BMW marque.

Oh yeah and I hate how people wear those ridiculous smegging headphones while walking down the street. I don't care if they sound cool to the wearer - they look f**king STUPID!! I bet they wear sunglasses indoors as well - f**king wankers. Bet they have tinted windows in their cars.... Now, I'd better grab some coffee and get into a good mood...

I hate how Mac software tries to infiltrate and take over from all the other software on my PC. Hopefully iTunes and all that other associated crap is now gone forever from mine. I hate how uSoft insists on nannying everything - bring back DOS!!

That black car looks freaking awesome. The black wheels and tinted windows on the lower silver car just look silly to me. Speaking of spoilers, apart from aesthetics, does anyone actually believe they do anything at all in normal driving, other than increase drag and petrol consumption?

My e39 528 usually averages 12/100 for town-only driving and 9.6/100 on a trip. Mixed mode driving is usually between 10-11/100. It has an automatic gearbox and I usually adhere to the speed limits and only accerate briskly when I really have to. Due to my ancient years, I find litres/100km almost totally meaningless and tend to think in terms of mpg. Converting my figures to mpg gives: about 24mpg around town only and about 30mpg on a trip, with an overall average of about 28mpg.

I hate it when people express their opinions as if they were facts.

I have a 23 yo daughter living in Auckland. She has so far had two Nissans. She's semi in the market for a new car, since her current one is close to 300k. For some strange reason she likes the E30 shape, manual and also likes the 318 for low petrol costs and easier maintenance etc. If you can put aside your performance orientation for a mo, she's not into speed or acceleration, just into a nice ride, I'd appreciate your input on the following issues: e30 318 reliability? availability of parts? road feel? problem areas? Cat sensor? Lord knows - I guess the muffler shop either shorted or left it open, whichever is the failsafe position. Never worried about it myself.
