About Me
Whilst in New Zealand from Brisbane Australia to see my family I purchased a mint condition one owner 1987 BMW 318i sedan silver blue (cirus blau) in colour
It had been owned by my sister and her husband from new
After having it checked out I decided to ship it back to Australia on the "Pre 1989 scheme" this alone has many traps for the unwarey. I dropped it off to the shippers on 15th October to be shipped on a "roll on roll off" ship the "Tamesis" arriving in Brisbane on the 25th.
I found to have it registered in Queensland it had to comply with Australian design specifications which meant having to have side intrusion bars on all four doors and child seat attachments added to the rear parcel shelf - all four tyres had to be replaced for the same reason - the car passed a warrant of fitness only two days before being shipped
I have purchased a few goodies from Ebay - Full set "Hartge" 16x7" wheels fitted with 225/45x16" Tyres, Factory safety triangle, medical kit and spot lights. Rear seat head rests, disc brake rear end factory glove box torch- it would be hard to find a more pristine one here in aust - the whole exercise costing me the same as if I had have bought one here
I came back to NZ last year and bought a 1994 E36 318is coupe also in fantastic condition but the Australian Authorities have in their wisdom not allowed it into Australia on the grounds it is too new or I stay in NZ for 12 months and bring it in under the personalised import scheme - so it has become my drive car whilst over there
