  1. THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

Manuel Menezes Morais shot the photos, but he was sworn to secrecy about the cars' location and the owner's name. However, he was able to obtain permission from the elusive owner to give me the following information:

The owner of the cars was a car dealer in the 1970s and 1980s, and decided to save the more interesting cars that came through his doors. When the barn was full, he padlocked and "soldered" the doors shut. (Perhaps welding was too permanent.)

Web sites varied on the number of cars: 58, 100, and 180 were speculated. According to Morais, there are 180 cars in the barn.

And, aw shucks, none of the cars is for sale.

Clara was able to determine that the cars are located somewhere in the area of Sintra, near Lisbon.

I asked Morais if he could ask the owner if he had a favorite car. "He has lots of good cars in very good condition," he says, "but he loves the Lancia Aurelia B24. He has two."

I would ask that a European-based SCM subscriber pick this story up and help fill in the blanks. And let me know what you find ([email protected]). I'd like to include the true story in a future In the Barn book, as well as in SCM.

    Found this here http://www.sportscarmarket.com/articles/archives/1110

Sounds good but id belive anything on the web!

  2. Ive had a look and it looks easy enough. just those three 8mm bolts that hold the top on. Im unsure about the sticky tape as the top (fiberglass?) section was lost. But if there rusted I wouldnt try too hard as youll rip the mount out of the fiberglass.

  3. Are you trying to pull the spoiler into two peices??

If so i dont think this can be done + wouldnt want to risk damage.

    Google??

It can be done! when you hit a tree......

Ill have a look at my old mans rooted one and see if it can be done without destroying it.

  4. Questions/advice

    1. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with these makes? I know Sergei likes King Tony tools (had to put the tools in or it sounded dodgy! tongue.gif ) and Koken is one of the middle to higher makes recommended by a few here, but if I really know what I was talking about I wouldn’t be asking you guys now, would I? tongue.gif

    2. Should I gradually build up my collection by buying stuff separately, e.g. socket set, spanner set, screwdriver set, etc. (more expensive in the long run than purchasing a tool chest for instance) or buy a tool chest a la:

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...5595734.htm?p=6

Risk is that I end up with stuff I never use? I know they contradict each other, another reason I’m asking around!

    3. Any good places to go to for these? Tried a few places in Wellie and Waitemata Hydraulics in Auckland, but open to suggestions…

    4. Has anyone purchased from overseas? Exchange rate is fantastic right now..

Im working with my tools for most of the day and if I were you id be more than happy buying King Tony, there a good brand at a good price. I wouldnt bother with koken unless your going to use them on a daily basis.

The only down fall with buying a big starer pack is that if you find working on cars isnt for you...... its a big expence.

Risk is that I end up with stuff I never use?

This all depends on how much work you intend to do.

Be carefull about the "life time warranty".... On some occatoins the life time of the tool can expire extreamly fast....

    Hope that helps.
