I didn't think there was such a thing... he probably means remote closure ie: sunroof and windows can be closed using the remote? (Apologies if I didn't catch any intended sarcasm)

Ah... I can see why you're a proud dad!

Ashtray is a simple swap, some cars came with a container (with no lid) in place of the ashtray, I'm guessing that's what you have now? By the way the ashtray has a little light inside, so if you're swapping the rear one to the front, try to see if you can move the light too, it's just a wire running to the bulb holder. Post pics of your car and we'll tell you if it's a factory M-Sport... if yours is a Japanese import it'll likely have 16" wheels and half leather seats, and of course the M bodykit. The ///M logo on the trunk is not a good indication of whether it's genuine, you can buy them everywhere nowadays.

Nice Thanks for sharing. This isn't the daughter who drives a BMW Glenn?

Yep it looks similar but on yours the parts near 3 and 9 o'clock are separate from the rim while on the other it's one piece. What you could do is ask for some high-res pictures of it, front and back, and remove your wheel (including the airbag part) and compare. Also ask for the wheel diameter. Also try comparing the part numbers and you might be able to find something on the net, www.realoem.com and www.bmwfans.info will help.

Gotta love that Imola Red...

How easy it is to remove really depends on how many times it's been removed before. I've done this in two cars, one was so easy - it just came loose with a slight push, while on the other, I had to push really hard. So don't worry, just push the bit that your finger can feel upwards and push really hard, one end should come out... then wiggle it out. There shouldn't be anything to break.

Happy Birthday Laurence, bummer about the work but have a good one anyway!

IIRC, the bulbs cost ~$2 - $3 at the dealer. They aren't LEDs. To remove the OBC, there will be a hole above the sunglass holder, just use your finger to unclip the OBC from the bottom. Then you'll see the bulbs can just be unscrewed and you pop the new bulb in. As Nick said, 18 button will need to be retrofitted... whether it's worth the trouble is up to you. There are many resources online about this. Hopefully the screen on your 8 button OBC is still good, most of them have dead pixels!

Huge improvement to the rear end Nick... makes the car look a few years newer!

It's very cool, they aren't very common in NZ too!

It's great, definitely quicker than IE and Firefox, though the one I'm using (not sure if it's the very latest, downloaded it the 2nd day it was out) has an issue with Facebook - you can't comment on status messages? Just a matter of time before the bugs are ironed out I'm sure.

Welcome Julian Try posting in the Race Series forum, as I think some of them don't read this one.

That's true but they also look HELLA good!

Nice work Ashkan, I didn't know you bought it, good to see it's still in the family.

I got a puncture repaired before at Firestone for $19 IIRC. Sometimes they say it's not repairable though. Probably worth mentioning that the tyre wasn't low profile like yours, though I'm not sure if it makes a difference.

Removing the steering wheel is very easy so don't let that hold you back. I was told about Fibre New, maybe you should give them a call.

Congrats on the purchase swiggs, the E39 has timeless beauty. With regards to the lights, as Nick has mentioned, if you want to go with the Hella CELIS (LED) tail lights, you need ballasts to avoid getting a check control error, due to the difference in resistance. Maybe ask Jochen if there is a way to program the car to not throw the code, without the ballasts. For the headlights, if you want to just fit halogen Hella CELIS (Angel eyes), you need different wiring harnesses which should come with the headlights as kit if you buy them new as a retrofit kit. If you want to fit HID Hella CELIS headlights, then you need the wiring harness and reprogram the car to accept the HID units, if not you will get an error just like the tails, again due to the difference in resistance. Jochen knows about this too. There are aftermarket tail & headlights available, but they do not look exactly the same as the Hella and I'd say Hella is better quality. If you're particular about your car looking original then go with Hella, an enthusiast would be able to pick out the aftermarket lights

Nice M3 Ray. It's always good to see an M3 taken care of. PS: Your daughter has good taste in cars and colour.

Don't go cheap on things like the water pump, it will come back to haunt you later on. Go OEM or original BMW.

Side and rear look awesome, I really really like the rear. The front is ok but could be better.

323 has the M52 and 325 has the M50, so not the same engine. M52 is better As has been said, a 323 sounds about right for you, or a 328. The M50 is thirstier, you need to rev it high to get power. The M52 has more low end torque and a 323 has enough power to have fun as a daily.

I use the 303 Aerospace Protectant. It's great, leaves a matt finish and also provides UV protection. IIRC, it's used for the vinyl covers on boats.
