No - there are a couple of E36s around Auckland with HID kits in the stock headlights, and the beam pattern is not the best. If you come across one of those cars, look how the light spreads right in front of the car and look for hot spots.

I'm assuming you're talking about HID kits and not halogen bulbs filled with xenon gas which I've seen around. HID kits result in sub-optimal beam pattern in the Bosch halogen lights (no E36 lights came designed for proper D2S HID except Hella CELIS). Proper HID do not come in the typical halogen bulb bases of H1, H3, H7 etc. What happens with kits is they take a HID bulb and 're-base' it onto a halogen base so people can stick them into their halogen lights. Some halogen headlights will have a better beam than others, but in general kits cause glare to other road users and you'll notice there are hot spots in your beam. So strictly speaking, if you want to have HID on your car, either use headlights designed for them, or retrofit HID projectors into your headlights (but I'm not sure if that's legal even though it can be done properly). 4300k would be best for our eyes, it's the colour temp of factory HIDs. I suggest you try cleaning your headlights first as they will have a film of dirt/oil on the inside glass and on the projector/reflector. You should see an improvement. Miles are you running a kit in the Boschs? What brand did you go with? Any issues with WOF?

Can you still do that with the new iPhone? Not me! Still, what a disappointment.

Nice pics Bummer about the skiing but the next trip up should be rewarding!

Welcome Wonkaa! I like how the car looks and the front kit, not so sure about the rear (not a fan of the double slats). I've seen that kit a few times, thought it was OEM.
-
Looking good Glenn. Time for a euro plate to complete that rear end!
-
Nice! The wheels will look great on the car. It's great that you've already started doing stuff to it so quickly.
-
Ooh... sexy time! Where are the rear end shots - LED tails right?
-
No, baseplates are different. The ones you see around are aftermarket (or hacked up genuine ones). Same applies to E46 M3 mirrors that fit on the E36.

Nice addition Nick. at everyone wanting one now. I thought our cars were the Ultimate Driving Machine guys... we don't need armrests

Nice work Graham. I'm surprised the butt dyno detected no HP gains??

That's my pet hate too. I think half the people who have them on don't know what that little button on the dash does, and 'the more lights the better' Jochen brings up a good point. Perhaps the regulations came in after my E36 was produced. Mine was an 1992 model so earlier than any of the others mentioned in here. I just remembered that a friend of mine who also had a 1992 E36 also had both rear fogs.

No question about it - number 1. Plus it'll look good with your kit!

Very nice. I think the rain was a good thing, nice reflections in some of the pictures. You should have gone hunting for a huge puddle What sort of exhaust does M3TRBO have? LOL @ first pic. Happened to me last week too.

Hmm... odd. My E36 had rear fogs on both sides. I thought maybe it has something to do with your car being a UK import, but I'm guessing Braeden's cars are Japanese as well? I'd trace the wiring to the pins and follow the tracks on the light and figure it out... not like it's a big deal though - we rarely need to use them in Auckland.

Welcome swiggs

I suspect there is no correlation - an increase in post count will not result in an increase in intelligence. However there could be a correlation between post count and time, and time could increase intelligence. That said a sample size of 1 is not sufficient for us to make accurate statistical inferences If any?

Sounds like a contact issue. Would swap bulbs per Jochen's advice, high chance that will fix it.
-
Sell them and install these on the stock Bosch headlamps Brian. They look better and I suspect the Bosch put out better light.

$100... awesome price! Yeah the Schnitzer imprints I've come across weren't 100% perfect but after painting seem to come out alright. Definitely not noticeable if you aren't trying to find faults - plus they give you bragging rights Look forward to the pics.

Manual & LSD are going to be the big ones Did you end up getting the spoiler from Jerry Clayton?

How old are you? Everyone has a basic right to a good night's sleep, and to public property (eg: roads) that are in good condition (ie: not full of skid marks). If you want to do skids, buy yourself a big property and do it as much as you want till your tires pop and your wheels disintegrate, no one could care less. A 'little smoke which will clear in a few seconds and a noise which usually lasts less than a minute'... multiply that by a large bunch of teenagers who do that without fear of retribution by folks like you, equals sleepless nights. Not to mention, stupid acts like this are only the starting point - if people are doing stupid, mindless things like this, they are capable of more.

I'm not E30 expert - but is the only thing ACS about it the front lip?

Mm I get what you mean about the Altezzas, there are a fair few around. E36 lenses are glass. Btw I made a typo when talking about glass having the UV coating - I didn't think the glass would yellow from UV, only polycarbonate I assume... I think PlastX is worth a go - note they changed the formulation sometime ago, the old one could only be applied by hand but the new one can be applied by hand or machine. It was a while back though so all shops probably have the new stuff now. I know member 'mtk540' used the Mothers version of the plastic cleaner (sorry don't know the name) on his E39's pre-facelift lights which should be made of the same material - they were hazy/scratched. He reported success with it and you could see a change straight away on the first pass. He didn't say they were yellowed though, so hopefully the yellowing on yours is only on the surface. Good luck!
