  1. Re your fuel and temp - when you say they are inaccurate what do you mean - are they reading low/high/going all over the place..what? Generally the symptoms that you have described are caused by dead or dying batteries on the SI (Service Indicator) board inside your cluster. Have you replaced these? The E30 ones are actually soldered on. Another thing that will cause this is bad connections from the gauges themselves. Make sure that the we nut the holds the gauge to the board has a washer and that its clean and tight so that an electrical connection is made. As you have an E28 Im only guessing that they are similar in construction to the E30
  2. Maybe post a request if someone on the board here will take a look for you? I am guessing you would have to ask really nicely and perhaps offer beer as an exchange? Other than that look up the yellow pages yourself and find an instrument repairer or garage that can do it.
  3. Well I can't argue with you on that as I don't know whether it was bad gas or not - but the problems the guy was having were over a pro-longed period of time before using the product. He did use the car daily to drive about 40 kms to work and back and reported better consumption and overall driveability. I dont really want to debate it too much as I dont have anything to back up the guys findings, I'm just posting an alternative viewpoint based on a friends experience with the product.
  4. Car giant Ford has agreed to sell its UK-based luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover to India's Tata motors. The deal is worth two point three billion US dollars. Tata Motors is India's top bus and truck maker. Under the agreement, Ford will contribute up to about 600 million dollars to the Jaguar/Land Rover employees' pension plans. 5. While I am a big skeptic of quick fixes such as this I actually observed this thing do some good for a friend of mine. He had (dont laugh here) an Austin Princess which would not run properly on unleaded unless the timing was that retarded that the thing would hardly move (yeah I know...dont say it). Much to my amusement he fitted one of those fuel star things and never looked back. After a couple of tanks we could advance the timing back to where it should have been and the car ran sweet with no fouling up of plugs. The theory is that a minute amount of tin is passed into the fuel system that acts like lead. What this had to do with being able to make this Austin princess run as well as it did is beyond me - but it did. I dont think it is something that modern BMW owners should even bother about, but "may" be worth a try on older cars that require leaded fuel and have still have issues with it.
  6. When you say you have replaced the cluster I take it you mean that you have bought a second hand unit? If this is the case then the one you bought is obviously faulty. Just by removing and reinstalling the original should not affect the odometer. The odometer can be replaced on its own or individual gears, but if you are not sure on what you are doing I would suggest that someone who has some experience, carry this out for you. It's not so much difficult as fiddly.
  7. I have a couple of worsening leaks in my E30. The first appears to be coming from the Power Steering Pump. Can you get a seal kit to repair or should they be replaced? The second leak looks a bit more involved as its coming from the sump gasket. I tried tightening up the sump bolts I could get to a while back but its back again and very annoying. What is involved in getting access to the sump bolts to replace the complete gasket? Is it a nasty job or reasonably straight forward? Any advice welcome.
  8. The roads seem to be not too bad at them moment. The big rush to escape into (or out of) Central seemed to be Thursday evening and Friday.
  9. This Easter there is the Warbirds over Wanaka air show which is fantastic but which obviously generates a lot of traffic. Add to that this year a big campervan meet (as well as the usual holiday travellers) and you have lines and lines of traffic behind half the camper vans in NZ crawling along the road spewing smoke and refusing to pull over. I just drove home from Alexandra and the traffic was the busiest and slowest I have ever seen. So if you are thinking of driving around Central over the Easter break - do take care
  10. if you cant use websites you have to sign in on it sounds like a security settings to me. If its only banking sites you cant use then you need to look at port 443 and https settings - ie allow them. If its all sites that you have to sign in on then you will have to go throu all your security settings - things like allow cookies and so fourth. I am not a mac person so cant advise you any further than that. Hope that may help.
  11. Please excuse my ignorance on the subject - but is a "coon basher" just a generic term for something like a baseball bat - or is there something more specific that ppl use?

    What the!

Possibly off a large diesel generator. Friend of mine has a huge diesel engine on their orchard that just drives a pump for irrigation all night long - the manifolds glow red hot!
  13. Well done Dimebag - it seems as if the cops aren't prepared to do anything to uphold the law these days other than the easy stuff such as handing out speeding infingements so I guess we have to protect ourselves and our property now.
  14. In the U.S they have some sort of film ( a bit like tint but stronger) that holds the glass together really well and helps stop smash and grab type break ins - I have looked and cant see it being sold here in NZ.

Im liking the colour and those wheels. With a really good clean and polish it will come up great. I also think it might look better without the acs striping - but thats my opinion only.
  16. An engineering shop should be able to help you out. Also there will be members of this forum that would have had this done - anybody???
  17. I put one on my E30 and what I notices was that the handling/chassis felt tighter and more controlled on rough corners - especially down hill. Im talking about out on the highway here. The car also has M-Tech springs and Biltsein Sport shocks and everything seems to work in well together. As the e36 chassis has greater torsional rigidity than the E30, you may not notice the differences that I did.
  18. I suspect archaeologists 500 years from now will look back at carbon trading and our ranting about global warming in much the same way as we think about the great religious upheavals of the middle ages and think WTF were these people doing?! However whatever the reasons political or otherwise for our current thinking on climate change, it makes sense for the majority of us to be as efficient as possible in terms of energy if for no other reason as to save money!
  19. Might pay to think about what you are going to do to correct your camber as well as that is going to be way out. There are some other posts about this topic on the board somewhere. By the way im looking for some rear mudflap mounting brackets for a pre f/l E30 - if you want to sell yours, plz pm me.
  20. I return all my used engine oil back to the ground - does that count as recycling?
  21. Do the e30 320i injectors require periodic cleaning or replacement? I have heard that replacing the seals is a must do maintenance item but have not heard of anyone actually doing anything else to them. The reason I am asking is that I suspect that one or more may be leaking and contributing to hard hot starting. Is this something I should talk to the BMW agent about and does anyone know what sorts of costs are involved?
  22. not sure what you mean exactly about what is blocked, but it is hopeful news that the valve actually opens and closes as it should. Also not sure on what you should clean it with - something that comes to mind is drain cleaner! Just make sure it doesn't eat into the alloy. I haven't tried this myself but would be worth a shot. You could also try chipping away at it with whatever you can poke in there. The only other thing that comes to mind is radiator cleaner
