Don't get a tiltadoor unless it's sectional.Made that mistake with my first one. It occasionally would hit a car or guest car if parked to close. Not good with kids either.
also limits how much height you have to play with an engine when using an engine hoist if door open.

Slightly off your topic but this was my favourite garage in terms of ideas for a garage workshop. Has really well planned spaces and I like the drop down wall benches.
-
Can't speak on which company to go with but I have spent far too much time on the site below looking for ideas. Has everything from well planned basic to money no object sublime . Might help you decide on which way to go or what features you may want .

Roads behind Masterton (east side) widens into some of the best roads down this way. Know it well from motorcycle rides in the past.
Noticed the windscreen as well

Another way other than the iPhone generic tray is to mod the Nokia tray.
I modded my Nokia one to fit a iPhone 5 but didn't include a passive aerial. No issues with reception I noticed at the time.
End up getting an iPhone stand and used the iPhone mount from it.
used ULF for Bluetooth.

Interesting position if true.
Consumer protection website says to call BMW. Guessing this could get quite political for BMW NZ and damage the brand as a result.
Where do BMW stand legally if a large group of jap origin owners grouped together and legally went after BMW on the grounds of a world wide recall. Would the group go after BMW NZ or BMW Ag ?
Thoughts anyone ?

Watching with interest.
My car seems to be going down in power.
first hub dyno at 48,000 km saw 230kw at hubs. Car was one of the quicker M3s I'd tried going by butt dyno at time of purchase .
Second Hub dyno at 90,000km saw 210kw at hubs
Third roller dyno engine run at 122,000 saw 183kw at tyres (Running Mobil blended 98 which causes pinking on the M3)
Running SMG so thinking about csl software for subframe longevity and restoring power.

same Wellington car ? Orginal owner had passed away and the car had 97,000 kms in 2014. Was immaculate then and still looks as good.
Isn't 210 kw enough ?

Changed phone again so now running iPhone 7 which no longer has 3.5mm jack. But if a pain as can no longer charge and listen using old kit. Will try and get airplay working with Kodi media centre but really need to sort out hands free calling again

So been running the media player and working through having the USB hub power up and down when the raspberry Pi wakes up and sleeps. A start up script triggers one of the pi's gpio pins high which triggers a audrino relay, this turns in the 12 volt to 5 volt power supply . This powers the hub and give the blueray player enough power to operate.
the audio quality achieved by the Pi and optical dac straight into the dsp as worked out very well. With the system at full volume there is no background noise .
Have given the system a bit more time alignment so from the drivers seat the left and right speakers have enough delay and offset for the stereo image to appear dash hieght and centred . I've also moved the midbass roll off up to 75 Hz without effecting midbass impact too much.
Also added an M3 theme to the media centre menus.

Looks like the media player will play most formats . Almost worth plumbing via aux input for USB audio libary duties .

Great project. Probably the cleanest picture you can get TV wise. Did you go to the trouble of adding the ir receiver ?
-
True, but the RS is closer in terms of performance.
STs and MPS don't seem to be ..... from what I've seen running re11s
-
I kind of like the flashing yellow triangle light on the dash with these tyres. Comes on randomly for no apparent reason. Maybe 235s on the rear is the key.
I'm now worried about getting owned by 105v shod Focus ST drivers.
-
Review a bit suspect . Rates the 105v high in many areas. Got a rear set in the garage on a spare set of rims. Very easy to spin up . The m3 will do this if you down shift to 2nd and change up to 3rd which caught me by surprise. Haven't had this with any other tyres let alone PSS.

Even 18s in 235 & 265 can be $2000 plus. Issue seems to be a small market. My last couple of sets have been via tirerack as couldn't get re11 or pss locally in that size. Btw Bridgestone are export controlled meaning if NZ doesn't stock you choice of tyre or size you are forced to other brands. I tried importing re71r earlier this year. Went to PSS in the end at $2.2k.

One night spent in Hamilton to find bonnet badge plastic gone. What's that about .....
-
Like to give it a try if that's ok. Have a win 10 32 bit netbook if that's suitable. Notice rattle was less up the Wellington gorge tonight . Better for the trip. Viscos fan replaced about 60,000 kms ago. Car at 122,000 km , cooling system untouched but water / oil gauges reading normal.

12 hours ago, hybrid said:In the disassembly of MDS50 and MSS54/52 ECU code.
The MSS50/52/54 ECUs all have a very advanced knock control system. It has a per cylinder hi and low flag system which allows the ECU to determine the onset of knock and prepare for it. The other variables in the ignition retard equation are IAT and Coolant temps.
There is quite a bit of logic that goes into it which I'm not going to stick on a public forum but it is the reason a lot of you will see wild differences in power.
The S5X engines run quite high compression ratios for a road engine on pump gas and with that comes a close to the edge ignition control system.
Here is some dyno software I developed for it ... top right is the knock control system read out.
Quite interesting . I notice the car knocks quite a bit of late ( fourth gear up inclines) Doesn't like the blended Mobil 98 for some reason where it seems to knock even more. I'd largely run it out of the tank on the way to Auckland.
Last dyno day (hub) about 30,000 kms ago saw a result quite a bit higher. That time they where saying the car was on the lean side.
Anyway , enjoyable day and quite a fun 1300km road trip.

Hybrid , where are you seeing that kind of info ?

Will be interesting for mine. Two hub runs and roller this time. 30,000 kms between runs as well

I brought a freeview terrestrial tuner kit for the BMW TV module www.pibus.info . I hate having a module that didn't work. Use to watch TV in the car whilst parked up when waiting for the wife to finish work. Not into driving and TV , but its handy to have the audio only sometimes.
I decided not to go with the USB input for playing media or the ir input. The TV module is still controlled from board monitor.
BMW tuner module
Circuit board.
Tuner module converting to smb aerial connectors.
Drill a couple of new holes for new antenna connectors
Module finished.
Next stage, connecting iphone video output to TV tuner aux in.

Got around to fitting Freeview tuner module in the M3. Nice and straight forward install. (blue board in photo) more info on kit at www.pibus.info
Reworking a couple of areas of my car stereo where in hindsight I should have done better.
