  1. hey I had another loonk under the hood The batteries gave up in the camera just before i was going take the picture, but here's some photos anyway(had them for ages, and my engine bay looks identical).
  2. prety shure it's the right one. but I'll have another look, just in case. how much did that cost ya? cheers
  3. just got of the phone with ATP and this is what i got: $7 for the gasket and $32 for the filter (both the prices exvlude gst) so all up its $43. People complain about BMW's being expensive to service. Not if you know where to look. Thanks a lot you guys Andrei
  4. cheers I'll get a few :bounce:
  5. hey I've been on this forum for a while now, and i have to say it is probably the best one I've ever visited. From the time I was thinking about buying a BMW the first time, till today when I got my 525i, this place has been a great inspiration. Never had any questions unawnsered, people have always been helpfull. I would be very happy to make a donation to this cause (and my bimmer will be very happy to wear the www.bimmersport.co.nz sticker :-)) So, how do I proceed? Cheers Andrei
  6. hey i just wana give you guys an update: i went to bmw christchurch and they said about $70 for a gasket and $56(or close) for a filter (both these prices exculde gst). It just so happens i was outside a butler mart and i went in and asked them about it and they said $80 for filter and gasket (normally $160 but there is somekind of sale ?!). As for oil, he guy showed me the best stuff they had. (i can't remember the brnad, but it wasn't Dextron or Mercon, which seem to be the recommended ones). It was $51 for 5L. I went to ATP, but there was a sign saying "back in 15 min" after 20min nobody came, so I left. Another interesting thing i came across: at chc bmw there was another guy there buying some stuff (the guys behind the counter called him by his first name) and talking to him he told me about the thum in the gearbox. he told me it's a certain kind (can't remember what the name was) and it's the particular one's weak spot. He also said that the buys at aceomatic can 'cure' it. he wasn't shure what they do, but it could very well be the bearings meantioned above. I'll call ATP tomorow ans find out what they sell :-) wel, those were my findings Cheers Andrei
  7. hey guys i just had a look at the oil. I was looking for the dipstick somewhere hidden in the bay....and after i stoped looking in all the weird places i found it right next to the airbox . the oil definatley needs changing (brown and bit harsh texture). I'll see what brand they reccomend, but I'll keep your advice in mind. as to 8-9 liters => it would probably take that much if you could get it all out, but doing the change at home by draining (as opposed to have it sucked out at the professionals) will only let out about 50% of oil at the most, so will probably need no more than 4 L. Shame, I's rather change it all. I'll keep you guys updated on how everything goes Thanks for all your contribution guys, you kick ass! :mosh: Andrei
  8. cheers guys i'll make a few phone calls tomorow Andrei
  9. well then...can anyone reccomend a good gearbox oil? cheers Andrei
  10. hey, I finally bouth the car I've wanted for a while. It's a 92 525i. When it's cold, the gearbox is a bit funny (seems to change gears in higher revs then when it's warm, and the change from 1st to 2nd is a bit rough). So i thought I'll change the gearbox oil. I heard that there are kits for sale (including filter, oil...) anyone know any places where i can get one in Christchurch? (or got any tips related to the topic?) And while we're at it, any pointers on differential oils? cheers for any help Andrei
  11. yup, thanks, i just wasn't shure
  12. ok, this has been driving me crazy: that is the 'E' for the new 2006 3 series? I have looked around for the awnser but can't seem to find it anywhere. can anyone help please? I wanna know my 'E's very well cheers Andrei
  13. lol. good on ya for trying to save money. Numbers don't matter, as long as it fits lol
  14. i know this is not the best place to post this, but while we're taking about the m50 engine in a e34: while i was at a dealer who had a couple of e34's a couple of days ago, he said that the engine mounts are someking of 'shock absorbers' to reduce the vibration of the enine (that's in my own words). Apparently after a while (wear and tear) something happens to them (oil going somewhere it shouldn't be?!) and the car vibrates more when it is idling. He also said that this can be solved by putting a jack under the ENGINE/GEARBOX and lifting it up a bit, so that the mounts suck oil back into where it should be????? Thants what he said, not in those exact words, but that was the point. Is any of this true? It's almost like something doesn't sound right.
  15. just as i thought just making shure :-). I just thought that if you take the cover of the m50 it might look like the M20. Don't ask. Thanks alot for clearing up the cofusion cheers Andrei
  16. hey, while looking around i think i came on to something. Is the M50 engine always covered with the black cover? What does it look like if you take it off? Does it look just like the M20? I'm just trying to figure out a easy way to make the difference between the two. Thanks

    1992 525i M50

that is one nice car. i am looking for one of those, wish i had the money! not much longer till i do
  20. That's a bit over the top ain't it? not really...the good deagreaser took most of it off, but i did have to use polish to take all of it of (as my mum was paying me for that job, so i had 2 do a gud one). Just so happens that i had lots of cut and clear polish so thats the kind i used. Her car is white to, so that didn't help either
  21. i'm guessing waterblaster isn't that great to wash the engine bay with either? corosion, water where there shouldn't be any....even tho a good deagreaser and a waterblaster could be the solution to a VERY dirty engine bay (like my mums which i cleaned out with simple green deagreaser (pretty expensive but great results) and a cloth and a bit of sprinkle with the hose at the end. took ages and couldn't get into a lot of places. the under side of the bonnet was so dirty in some places i had to use cut and clear polish. Only other place i use that is the rims of my motorbike, nothing is more effective than that. waterblaster would have helped. Ok, some/most dirt might come of, but will seagul sh%t come off to? Tell me wat you're using if it does just slide of, with no marks left befind, i want some lolAny comments on any of the above?
  22. thanks for that, i have NEVER used a waterblaster on a car yet, as i don't own one, yet (just a few more weeks to go, i'm counting the hours lol), but i've been washing my mums car for the last year, every weekend at least and NEVER used anything other than a sponge and good car shampoo. I was just exploring into the topic as i was reading the sticky about car washing. cheers guys
  23. sorry, meant to say 'would waterblasting take the wax off? or could it depend from how far away and for how long you are blasting it?'
  24. hey, I've read the sticky about car washing. I asked this question there but no1 awnsered it: If you wax your car, you shouldn't wash it with shampoo as this will take it of -i got that but, would waterblasting the wax off? or could it depend from how far away and for how long you are blasting it? cheers for any help
  25. I was thinking about a kit as well, rather do it at home, but then again if it hasn't been done in a while, a flush would be good. Cheers fo that
