  1. thanks for that. I always wandered whats actually behind the scene of servicing auto gearboxes. how cheap? where can u get them? how often should it be done?cheers
  2. hey, i was just wondering, when you get your auto gearbox serviced, what is actualy done to it? (i am particulary thinking about a m50 engine) cheers
  3. cheers for that I'm shure it can't be to far off. dats alwayz good to know. i only want the version with the m50 engine, which is chain driven cams, but thanks for the tip. I only wana know, so that it doesn't come as a shock when it needs changing, or as a thing to look out 4 when you buy 1.As 4 Thanks for the offer mate, but first i gotta sell my motorbike, and that can be a while away, and i only got about 4-4.5gs to spend. If ya have a look on trademe there are better deals. But thanks for the offer. A few of my favourites: http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction...8872&key=120622 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...on-41946786.htm One's got 100ks, so it's mint, and the other has the front end done+tyres+battery... This doesn't mean that they're better than yours, but the price kinda makes the difference... Thanks for all the help guys
  4. hey guys, I'm still researching the bmw i wana get (e34 525i) and in the "things that go wrong departament" there seem to be 2 faults that seem to be common (ignoring bad servicing causing other problems.........): - water pumps interior goes bust cus it's got some plastic impeller inside and it needs to be replaced with a newer 1, that has a metal impeller at about 80-100k. this is relativley cheap fix. -The next job is the front end (tie rods, bushings). This is the part i wanna know more about. What are all the parts involved? How expensive is it to get it done/get the parts and do it yourself...? Any other problems i should know about? My main inspiration wat this page: http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/e34.html Any help is appreciated Cheers Andrei
  5. just talking about this makes me wana grab my sportsbike outside (the muffler if taken of righ now for fixin) and terorise christchurch. about a full tank of gas should do. Apparently in aus (maybe in a certain state) the law says that the noise level reccorded 2m behind the muffler should not be over (i think) 85dB @ 3000rpm or something like that. That sounds fair, even tho it's not like you have your head 2m behind a exaust pipe often. Wouldn't be fair for some motorbikes tho, like mine. My 250cc four stroke redlines at 19000rpm, so 3000rpm would make almost no noise, even with the muffler off. all the posibilities...... It would be a good start tho, better than a cop deciding weather your car is to loud.
  6. plastic welding is good. i used it exensively on my motorbike. It had at least 6 craks, big and small. I reiforced it relly well. Didn't fail until the bike hit the ground at 80km/h. It is cheap. depends where you get it done tho. my panels were about $130 and were full of cracks (this price was ready 2 paint). It's a pretty cheap fix. I'd do it again if i'd had 2. Ask around, don't stop at the first place. that's my 2 cents worth
  7. I don't remember seeing it, but would a quick wash with a waterblaster wash off the wax? It's not scrubbing it, so it shoudnt rubb it down, but all that pressure... My gues is that it wouldn't wash it all of, but it would make the wax last less time??? What do the professionals think?
  8. cheers we had a look around today in town.they're nice. cooling is the only small thing is the cooling in the e36 bimmer.

    M3 Mirrors

I'll be getting some to, once i get a bimmer lol
  10. My dad is looking at buying a 2.5 to 2.8L e36. some people apparently complain about them being to expensive to fix (most are ppl who never owned 1 i guess). My questions are: -do they break that easy (from what i know, bimmers are the complete opposite. japs break down quicker, but there are plenty of parts for them) -and when the unavoidable happens and something does get buggered, how easy is it to find replacements(for a e36 obviously), be that OEM BMW parts ,like electronics, engine parts, or general stuff, like a sunroof servo or something? I reccon they're great cars, and i'm gonna buy a e34 525i soon no mater what any1 says anyway. cheers
  11. Is that it? thought there would be more than the obvious.Oh well, gues bmw names are not that hard after all lol
  12. I just found this 525iA. What does the A stand for? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...on-30673846.htm It's pretty cheap, seing it's a good year, decent ks and a lot of features and it's from a DEALER. It's got the M steering wheel to. Can anyone see the catch, or is it that A that makes it cheap? Cheers
  13. good point. one's im lookking at don't have it, but that's gud i gues. not shure why i thought about that. As for sounds, I haven't seen a stock car with a sound system gud enough for me lol. gotta luv solid bass lol
  14. if you wanna skip the bullshit jump to SUMING UP: can anyone tell me if the 525i has the airbag in the steering wheel? the reason for me asking is cause i'd like tio get an aftermarket one like this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C.../p-11866372.htm Another question is what are the sounds like? Any good? Being the electronics and car audio freak that I am I'd love to upgrade them. Being the cheap ass that i am, I'll probably do it for change from the bottom of the drawer lol. Well, the headunit and the amplifier would be not neccesarily expensive, but very good quality. SUMING UP: Is the driver airbag in the steering wheel? and what is the sound system like in a 525i? Cheers guys
  15. thanks for reassuring me dud You only get to be young and stupid once in life, so better make the most of it. I wanna get something nice, but not overpowered, or anything like that. I don't want to put myself in the position where an little extra turn of the throtle and i'm going over 100ks easy (or push of the pedal this time) AGAIN. If i was to get something like a turbo cefiro that's what would happen, and a few moments of pleasure would turn into a catastrophe easily. The 525i is the perfect ballance. good power, decently fast, but not over the top, pure luxury and pretty good on petrol if it's driven properly. I'll be geting back into bikes again a bit late, but for now, ill lay low. Andrei
  16. I'll have a look into the Alfa, but my fetish is really for bmw. This is the one ay? People say its a good car, but you have to service it well, otherwise it brakes down really bad. I'm looking for sumthing that reprezents reliabilty, well sort of lol. A 3L would be a bit big for me. Changing from a 250cc to a 2500cc engine will make my petrol bill big enough, don't need to go all the way to 3000cc :-). Looking at reviews, the 525i has the advantage. I've alwayz had a mix opinion about the Alfas, they're... different, but that can be a good thing. looking around they're alright. The ones after and including 94 have about 20hp more thand older ones, older ones having 192hp. The 525i does about the same (give or take :-)) the 164 (3L) ways 1.3 tons, 525i weighs 1.5tons. The thing is, if I want a performant, cheap car i would go for something like a 2L turbo nissan cefiro, for about $2000 or less. I love the bmw for it's style, while the Alfa is a bit more old styled in terms of looks. Thanks a lot for the suggestion, but I think ill stick with the 525i for now Andrei
  17. that looks sooo hot, and I mean hot as in cool, not temperature :-). Where do you guyz meat, like christchurch, auckland, where are most members from..tell me more about bimmersport members. I already love this place. I soooo would have got this bimmer, but I didn't have the money yet: http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction...asp?id=41039786 for that price it was great
  18. i remember that one of my friends who wanted to get a bmw in christchurch was gonna get one from a guy in bimmersport, manual 525i, very rare
  19. that's awsome where abouts?
  20. I got the exact same opinion, 3 series would be more thrashed, and with the belt driven cams, things get ugly if a cheap owner can't be bothered changing it. The belt will go a bit of, so the timing will folow and with the m10 or m20 (or both? can't remember) the valves will start hitting the pistons and that is just not the car i want. (I read all of this somewhere, it sounds reasonable)I am a bit of a racer, but even more of a luxury person, i don't want smaller or biger than a 5 series, i love them. As for leather, i'd like to have it but it's not a must. That's what I would normaly say, but after my latest carsh on a oil patch in a 2 lane roundabout goin abt 90ks my dad (who hates bikes) got scared, so ill just please him for now, but ill get a bike again later, no doubt at all. Bikes are the real racing machines, No offence to anyone. I saw and experienced what a mere 250cc bike (I got a Kawasaki zxr250) can do. Beates a 2.5 Turb Skyline in a short drag. Skyline would win if it was long, but you can see the differnce: 2.5l turbo vs. 250cc 4 stroke. My fav/dream bike a 2005 zx636r makes almost 100kw and with abt 160kg plus passanger to pull it is stuning. It's a road legal race bike. Wana go to the track? Just hop on at home and ride straight to the grid on the circuit. ok, cars can do that to, but not at 14-15000 dollars brand new from dealer, less than $10000 from private sale.you guys are really fun do you ever meet outside this site/forum, like in person? Andrei
  21. Another thing i just realized while looking around: there is a touring and a sedan. What is the difference between a touring and a sedan? I think one of the differences is that the touring is slower? Can anyone help with this one? Cheers
  22. you gotta admit, there are some arsewhole cops out there, lucky enuff the only time i got to deal with one is when a mate got in trouble at the supermarket for taking a water bottle in, and they sayid he stole it and called the cops, even tho cameras would have proved us wright. Anyway, the cops I had to deal with on the road were all awsom. mind you, i never really got pulled over in the last year since i got my bike. once a cop visited me because scool was complaining (which was partialy true), for which i only got a warning. he was understanding cause he used to ride motorbikes to. and another time i was speeding a lot in a 60k area outside town, and around the corner a cop was comming towards me. i hit the brakes as hard as i could, (and sportsbikes have realllly good brakes) and he only flashed his headlights at me as i passed him. there was noone out there so i wasn't gonna hit anyone. another time cops were cool is when we got burgled. the forenics guy was awsm, even tho they never really got anyone. to sum up: some cops are jerks and you just gotta hate them for teying to make it look like you killed someone, and others are understanding and can make the difference between something that is acctualy dangerous. that's my 2 cents worth about cops anyway
  23. can't wait 3 get a bimmer dat is. Has anyone had leather interior? What's it like? I heard some people complaining that on a hot day the hot leather is realy uncomortable, beacause of the heat. To what extent is that true? Is it worth having leather interior? cheers
  24. I heard abt vanos failing over time...but now I know exactly wat happens, thanks for that. I would really like a vanos, but that's a bit out of my price range. I can't wait to get one :-D :mosh:
