you are talking about 2 different boxes refer to Kerry's post above...a dogleg gearbox (for m20 or s14) is around 2-3k depending where you can find one. as far as i know there isnt a 318 one (although if it is an m40 one you could adapt an m20 one) what sort of 318 is yours? facelift or pre facelift? you are in Oz? pre facelift manual boxes sell for bugger all here...a couple of hundred $ or so not sure how serious you are about getting more power, but best bet is to prob get a standard box - as long as looked after they seem to handle decent power. if its an m10, an m30 or s14 box will fit if its an m40, an m50 box will fit...a m20 box can be made to fit but needs work. all those boxes should be enough for a decent amount of power

just get a 318 box - you don't know what a dog box is do you? 10k? are you mad?

Over here in the UK , Mtech 2's are holding their value much better than Mtech 1s (mainly because the tech 1's are all rusty). a nice 325i Sport tech 2 is around 2/3 the value of an m3 (varying of course, but still a decent amount). The look alone and the fact they are generally in better condition seem to ensure they hold values much better. They are really only worth heaps in 100% stock condition...for driving they probably overpriced...its a pity nice 325i's are not common enough in NZ

can you make sure its got some good bits on it again....

what are you wanting to pay? if you want an engine swap the cost will be a lot - really only worth it for e30 m3 owners wanting to keep their car original. there are cheaper engines that will probably work for you - if you are serious there should be people around here who can help.

Sales Account Manager working in Life Sciences for TransPerfect, a large US based translation company over here in the UK. Company is 3rd largest translation co. in the world and is largest privately owned. No need for a company car - its a 20 min walk away from my flat. Interesting, fast and keeps me busy, so I can't complain!

interesting points regarding polyester/vinylester and epoxy...makes me glad I use epoxy and explains a lot of the behaviour I have seen making a "proper" fibreglass kit would be difficult, but very nice

Conrod, would aftermarket ECU make a big difference for full throttle over a custom chip? i gather removing the AFM would increase throttle response but not necessarily change power figures, that comes from the fuel and timing which a custom chip can do? what manifold would you recommend in NZ? many custom manifolds seem fairly basic and not really that great - I know the BTB ones over here have a dyno proven 18hp (SAE corrected for the flywheel) and around the same amount of torque, but they are not cheap.

3pedals can be abrasive, but at least in this case he is right..i have had an agm (agreggated glass mat) kit before and it behaves exactly as he describes. just outta curiosity 3pedals in what way are you involved with composites? one of the interesting things really. do they make "nice" glass kits outta proper e-glass type cloth? that would be brilliant really..flexible, strong and easy to fix...light too regardless, kit will probably look ok and the owner will be happy which is all that matters!

you're assuming its gonna be over 180hp....how are you doing the build?
-
how did they snap a cam shaft? muppets! surely its easier to change camshaft vs new engine?

if you want em new, go to a shop. bmw stealer will have em...else you can try generic repco/supercheap hoses. if you super serious you can get silicon ones..not cheap though and probably over kill
