westy 614 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Bob the test driver for Lambo and others? Still vote Bruce.Name lives on. Obviously no ones heard of Bob.
Mike 1 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Read the question guys, its about supercars. If it was motorsport you'd have to vote Bruce. I don't know much about Wallace but seeing as he was test driver for Miura and other lambos I'd say he's probably done more for the supercar scene. Much of what McLaren is famous for happened after Bruce's death.
cainchapman 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I'm going with Bruce as I've never heard of Bob Wallace either. Regardless of whether the Supercar (in the road sense of the word) scene or not. I think you'll find that Denny Hulme and a few others will deny that Bruce did better dead than alive.
Mike 1 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 (edited) Hmmm, I should re-word that bit. Not trying to put down his accomplishments at all. I was trying to say all of the road cars that McLaren is famous for were built after his death. I suppose you could argue it was still his company and the F1 left a pretty big impression on the supercar scene. And I just like playing devil's advocate Edited May 8, 2007 by Mike
efirty 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I reckon Bruce, Its his name thats on the supercars. The Mclaren F1 set a pretty high benchmark in the supercar world and was well ahead of its time in regards to design and performance.
cainchapman 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 In my opinion Bruce is up there with John Britten and Burt Munro as Kiwi innovators, being able to design, prototype and manufacture leading edge technology. Colin Chapman's of their relevant fields. McLaren was more successful as a Can-am constructor than F1.
Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Mclaren absolutely dominated Canam with Bruce being the driving force until his death. They were also faster than F1 in their day. Cain, you forgot to add driver to Bruce's list of abilities. He won the title in 67 and 69, with Denny winning in 68 and 70, and Revson winning in 71, making 5 years on the run.
