OLLIE 26 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 Go here speedtest.net and test your speeds, post them up here and share your views. just vent a bit of steam, the online herald article fueled my fire my speeds are 1344 KB upload and 450 KB download a year ago I switch to a 4MB plan with xtra we never got over 3.5 MB but since then the speed has decreased as more people sign up and put load on the exchanges, it is appalling that my speed has been cut down to less than a 3rd of what i pay for. Who is responsible for this atrocity?! someone must be made accountable for this discerning issue! everyday i hear adverts for broadband and for online video etc.. it really annoys me because hardly anyone in this country can view video websites properly because of our slow speeds and latency and it's made worse the more people join up. what is being done to solve this problem we have? NZ is miles behind the rest of the world! I need answers, the public need answers and we need to see results. Also if Telecom comes out with a solution and charges horendous prices for it i will perhaps murder somebody, should i be prosecuted for murdering somebody, or can i just say is was a marketing tool to market my anti telecom movement, because that would be ok then right? Anyhow in summary, lines need to be upgraded, internet speeds need to be regulated at no less than 10MB everywhere, the cost should be less and all past CEO's of telecom should be fined $10 million each and forced to use only dial up for the rest of their lives. Thank you for hearing me blabber on. Ollie

mackt 1 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 Great topic - definitely needs a rant It's hard to believe that a country the size of NZ can't get it together around broadband speeds, with such a small population! I tried to support the small guys down here i.e Woosh but moved out of their coverage area so had to get ADSL. Went with XNET, haven't regretted at all, haven't had a problem for over 12 months now. Todays speeds 4500kb/s download and 120kb/s - pretty normal results for me.
bravo 35 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 (edited) I agree. Have always agreed and been screaming this for years. I'm 2495 down and 135 up. I'm on a 2Mbits speed down and a 128kbits up plan so thats not bad. Still crap that I pay $30 p/month for 2Gb at that speed. And there are good and bad times too. Die ISP's, Die. greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 2231 down, and 131 up. On xtra's Go plan 3GB. Interesting they say 128kb max upload speed, but got more than that. I find that Telecoms service isn't wonderful, but since they're raised the bar from 1GB to 3GB its improved noticeably.
