Sub Frame Bush Replacement

Has anyoneone attempted replacing the rear sub frame bushes that can offer advice.

Basically its a solid weekend and a bit job .. you also need to have the car suspened on the chassis remove the diff / trailing arms / half shafts etc etc.. then remove the subframe ... press out old bushes ... press in new ones .. re-install and done.

If you haven't done it before I would get someone to atleast give you a hand on a couple of points (removing the diff etc etc)

You'll need good solid axel stands too hook on the chassis and a decent jack. + a couple of sets of sockets.

You'll also be draining the brake fluid so youll need a brake bleed kit.

it might take a professional with all the gear and hoist a lot less time however.

You don't need to do that.

Unbolt handbrake cables and solid brake lines & exhaust (unless you want to try work round it)

Unbolt the subframe and top diff to car bolts.

Unbolt driveshaft from diff.

Lower whole subframe with diff and everything else still bolted on

(45 mins tops)

it's all pretty straight forward until you actually come to removing the bushes from the subframe and pressing the new ones in!

Thanks for that info.

Thought it was a bit of a major. I'm also doing trailing arm bushes, diff, and a set of IE sway bars. Hopefully give me some added performance around the track.

Any suggestiosn on how to remove the old sub frame bushes. I understand one method is to melt them out, or would a good press do the job.

it's all pretty straight forward until you actually come to removing the bushes from the subframe and pressing the new ones in!

A press is fine if you can get it to your subframe or the other way round I just burnt mine out with a gas torch, if you replace with poly items or similar then you often do not need to press them in I didn't with the powerflex ones, it is a whole lot easier to drop the whole frame diff etc included - it is a good few hours to do the job by yourself with a hoist though, i couldn't get the bloody subframe to drop out took a bit to work it loose.

Yup done mine,

Fight them with fire.

I took the whole rear out and stuck in a new diff, billet sway mounts, adjustable endlinks and some other little bits and peices.

Definatly a well worht it upgrade.
