Unsure how you work consumption on total KMs and tank capacity?!

325iA '94 does a 12.8L / 100km or thereof city driving.

stop start city driving....when i bought the car,a mid city auckland resident, the obc said 17l/100km.so at that rate my normal fill of 62 litres would get me 365 ks.....

so 1990 535 manual stop start city 62 litres 365 km=17l/100km

my "city driving" nets me any thing from 450 to 550 ks... =13.78l/100 to 11.2l/100k,but this is pretty much motorway with quite a few stops and a good long run.

you cant work with the theoretical tank capacity you need to work it out for each tank.this will vary slightly of course but sheesh my theoreticaal tank capacity is 80l..i have managed 72 l but my normal fill is only 62.

Here's how to work out your fuel consumption

AA - Calculating Fuel Consumption

Working with that formula:

1994 325i

Tank capacity = 62 litres

KM's per tank = approx 450

Fuel consumption = 13.7L/100km (hmmm, not great!!!)

of course it will be bad, you wont be using all of that 62L for that 450km.

Fill up, do your driving. Then fill up and use that amount for your calcs.

Damn, these figures don't look good. My tank indicates 1/2 full and I've only squeezed out 250kms from my E90 323i. Most of it is inner city driving (stop start stop stuff) but there is a stretch of about 34kms on the motorway. Works out about 8kms per litre or 12.4l per 100km.

Next time I'll take a ride from Aucks to Rotovegas. See what I get.

I'll take your fuel hungry car off you and swap for a Toyota Corolla, Toyota's design brief is to make economy top priority.

Ouch! That number is higher than the E60 M5's!

E36 320i with M50 (non-VANOS) used to get about 11.5L/100km with mixed driving and ~50% city, 50% motorway. Fuel was 95 (90% of the time) or 98.

Yuen - when they were cruising up to Manchester they got a solid 10l/100km out of it at 80mph, which means that at nz speeds of 100kmh, I'd probably be able to get 1000km out of the 90l tank :D

Imagine that conversation, I got 1000km out of a tank of gas!

other guy: wtf do you drive, a prius?

me: no a bmw

other guy: a diesel then?

me: no a 5.6l v12 that has a 90 litre tank of 98 octane :D

 Hahaha too true, I love how people say 'I get xxx km from a tank' when it should be km/litre! 90L tank is huge, is that what the 7 series have?

Yeah it annoys the hell out of me too, my mum insists that her Legnum ST-R gets worse fuel economy that her 626 because she 'is constantly filling it up' what she forgets is that the light in the Legnum comes on when you've used 40 litres (it has a 60 litre tank, but the light comes on early) and with the 626 the light typically came on at about 55 litres, it's tank was 64l so not much bigger. Explaining it doesn't stop her complaining though, even if they use about the same amout of litres per 100km!

E32's have 102l tanks, E38's and E65's are around 88-90l An E32 with the I6 would go forever!

prolly would be no better at 100 ks,esp on the hilly roads of NZ

98' e36 323i. BP 98 fuel.

My worse number was 13.7l/100km

Average was around 11.5-12l/100km most of the time though.

Ok. You guys are going to love this figure ....

E60 M5 with the V10 motor.

Just finished my 1st tank of gas and have been "learning" how to drive it ...

70 liitre tank and I got 230km out of it =

30.4 litres per 100km

And it was worth every cent :)

Awesome. I read the reviews when the E60 M5 just came out, they said 19.5L/100km, I thought that was a lot. I'm sure it was worth every cent for you to train your right foot to 'moderate' the throttle though ;) I'm assuming you use 98?

From what I've heard from a client, 280 km is normal for a tank. I thought 21km/100 was bad.
