I've had my X5 4.4i for just on 10,000km now, and I reset the second trip computer (CONSUMPTION2) when I drove out of the yard. Since I bought it the CONSUMPTION2 says I have averaged 13.7L/100km.

CONSUMPTION1 I reset each tank, my best tank so far I got 11.3L/100km, worst tank so far 15.8L/100km.

I do a 80%/15%/5% mix of openroad / town driving / boat towing.

To make it sound better I can always say that I can get 800km per tank in my V8 SUV :-)

My 2007 Subaru Legacy 2lt manual does around 8.7litres per 100km normal fast driving.

When I thrash it (and i really mean thrash it) I get around 10.5lt per 100km so its prettygood really.

The V8 e30 I'm not to sure, Its not great because the only time i drive it I'm really thrashing it lol.

Have been testing fuel consumption on my 1998 540i. With BP 98 and Synergy 8000, am getting between 16 -16.5l/100km around town with heavy foot from traffic lights. Did one trip to Hamilton and back and that gave 15.2l/100km. Can't imagine that I can get better than this.

Next 2 projects, find out consumption if all driving done in S mode and then if all driving in manual mode! I will be thrilled if the difference between normal and sport is not too much. Has anyone tried that?

That's about 30% higher than normal. My 540i would do 10.8l/100km on the same trip.

Either you have a lead foot, or you need to do a tune-up.

check plugs, filters, and O2 sensors, and possibly cats.

Worn O2 sensors will increase fuel consumption quite a bit. Can be checked on the GT1 system.

I'd reckon your 318 would probably get better economy with it.

I use it in my 323 and get circa 70kms more a tank than 98.

i also use it in the 535.Its the recomended grade for the car.I use 95 if i am doing a ghymkhana or something like that where i might be using higher throttle openings at relatively low revs than normal driving.Sometimes i might use 95 on a trip.I have never heard any signs of pinking

No thats not right. It is only a measure of the fuel's resistance to pre-ignition or knock resistance. IE the higher the octane the less likely the fuel is to pre-ignite under certain controlled conditions in a test engine. However if you run a lower octane than the engine is designed for and you get pre-ignition, this lowers the power output of the engine and if not controlled through engine management, will eventually ruin it.
