Something different

Recommended Posts

This has been the latest summer project to help me get over my BMW fetish, it's a car originally started by a Brendon Dixon on VASK and I'm slowly finishing the work he started.

It's a 1987 Golf GTI 16v, non power steering, manual windows etc, BBS Ra's, debadged and delocked boot, just done 134,000 miles. Imported from the UK in 1988.

I'm just finished refitting all the trim with OEM screws, fixed the central locking etc and because I'm anal I've been swapping out any worn parts for newer items. I need to finish the final touches to my false boot floor and source and fit OEM stereo speakers and then find some early arches, so I don't need to refit the side trim.

That looks awesome, good work.

I am so tempted to buy a golf as a DD.

Most of the praise should be for the previous owner, he did all the real work :)

It may need to be sold yet as the wife's grandad is terminaly ill and she's wanting to head back to the UK, so she see's this as an available money pot :P

the front reminds me so much of an e30s minus the bmw grill

The car feels much faster than my E30 318is and E30 325i, but probably because its very raw and has a hard ride...but the exhaust continually gurgles and accelaration is quick with a lightened flywheel...although it's very much back to basics over the BMW's.

Personally, build quality isn't as good and secondhand parts are difficult to find here in NZ, but its great fun to drive.

This is my other side project, it's my 15 year old sons car bought for 1k... just had a new roof fitted :)

When these are complete I'll be ready for another 325i.

Hehe, yeah we've gone from 5 BMW's to 3 Golfs, but the wife wants her BMW back.... this is her current car. I'm still looking for a decent project...another 325i?

2003 Golf GTI, Full Leather, heated seats, Eibach lower sway bar, GFB BOV, Supersprint exhaust etc etc
