Livi 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 So driving home from my bfs house out in Whangaparoa last night in Manly town I pass a cop this was about 2am , the moment i past him i knew hed do a U turn since i was the only one on the road , i was following the speed limit and everything! anyway as i thought he does a U turn , and even before he put his lights on i had pulled over. So he was a rather youngish male cop , he asks what i was doing out this way etc told him i was driving home. takes my details etc walks away. i waited for about 15mins for him to come back , so i got a $4OO fine for being on my restricted which is fine , i thought id get that *even though south auckland cops have never ever given me a fine for the amount of times they have pulled me up!* anyway he goes to the front of my car looks at it comes back and goes "its a bit low isnt it" *first cop to notice* i said "yes its lowered on jamex lowering springs , its on 15's , once i get 18's for it , it will be fine" he takes his note book out and puts it under my side skirt , "yes yes its way under the legal height" * so where are they actually meant to measure this? isnt it the lowest part of the car? the chassis? or what?* Anyway thats fine as i know my cars low , he didnt fine me for that. now comes the funny part.... he goes you know there is a new legislation coming out right? and i go what do you mean, and he goes well your going to have to do something about your exhaust its way too loud or else your going to get green stickered for it .. now i couldnt help myself i absolutly pissed myself laughing , he didnt like that too much , he asks why i thought this situation was funny , and i said for the pure fact that the exhaust thats on my bmw is STANDARD , it is the exhaust that came straight out of the FACTORY. He didnt say much other then i'll have to go get it silenced! grrr How can a factory exhaust be loud ? i was so tempted to say if you think this is loud , you should hear my evo , but didnt think he was the jokey kind of guy! But in all honesty do police have the right to say such nonsense? I mean give me a break . anyway thoughts on this matter? i had to write something , was trying not to rant! just thought it was a bit wierd a police man who should know the law to say that. Are police now taking advantage of this stupid exhaust law? And does anyone have any more info on this "new Legislation" thats coming out? Excuse the spelling not having a onto it day today! Jamez 2147483647 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 he takes his note book out and puts it under my side skirt , "yes yes its way under the legal height" i read that as him putting his notebook up ya skirt and having a look and saying it looks under the legal limit for ....uno moving on....... bit retarded on the whole exhaust thing, IIRC the officer doesn't have to even take a measurement to sticker ya, its all up to the way he/she feel's about it on the day. Omg... lol Sooooo we can all tell what your minds thinking about! haha there has to be some kind of arguement against that? especially if its an un modified exhaust? its all standard? joshnz 2 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) The notebook method is proven. My old E36 chassis rails up front sat a bit lower than the side skirts IIRC. You can see by your sig your car is way too low, definitely under 100mm. Not trying to be a sad c**t, but I've had a sh*t load of fines, all my own fault and I deal with it, as far as I am concerned, "do the crime do the time" applies here - cops need to take advantage of the law, it is their job after all. Livi 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) Ok this is about my exhaust bud lol i said i admit my car is low "Anyway thats fine as i know my cars low" Edited July 31, 2009 by Livi
joshnz 2 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 Haha, sorry. My standard 36 exhaust was silent, like you heard nothing, get in my mates same car, same model/year, standard exhaust again - and his had quite a unique tone to it, which I have noticed on a few other Beemir's, god knows what causes it. Livi 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 Yea mine has that unique tone , like it sounds grunty , but either way i would really doubt it was loud enough to be greenied , trucks are louder then the bmw i just want to know what to say to the cops incase they try green sticker me next time for my exhaust :S
joshnz 2 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 I have no idea what you could say, depends on the cop really and thier attitude. ... do WOF stations to noise tests on exhausts inclusive in the normal warrant test now? If they do .. just get a printout of the noise level, but even with that theoretically someone could still have said part changed over, lol.
bellicose 9 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 They can do what they like, depends on the cop though. My exhaust is FAR from quiet (ask Blair and Luke lol) and i've never had a prob' with cops or WOF. Besides how can we comment on your exhaust when most of us haven't heard it?
Livi 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 Well its not loud , as i said its definetly not a greenie , my evo would be but def not the bmw . either way i was just wanting opinions on how i could handle the situation if it arises again but they actually try to greenie me and also whether anyone has details about the new legislation. M3 Cab 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 I think he is just trying to keep south aucklanders off the shore which is perfectly reasonable Just saying "your exhaust sounds a bit loud" doesnt make it so. they will have to test it on the rd side before they can sticker it. User Name 19 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 Course they take Full advantage of the Law - wouldnt you if you were a cop, ive had enough problems with the cops with my cars and mates cars, but i will not complain cause i have gotten away enough times doing things which i should have lost my car and alot more but cop's being nice got away with quite alot. neways ignore its their job im sure people complain about things we all do at time. and alot of cop's have done up cars alot louder than ours, and get tickets aswell so think everyone is in the same boat

laadeelaa 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the 2am text updating me on your situation early this morning Liv. Haha. I knew it was coming, you'd gotten off too many times! I just can't understand why he didn't pink sticker you for the height!? Haha, you have to give the cop credit, it's a Friday morning, 1.30ish, no one on the road but a SLAB and a young vulnerable, innocent looking female driving it oblivious to how low her car is.
