E34 electric window fail

Recommended Posts

Guest Simon*

My driver's window is having seizures. Just searched forum and seems likely to be a regulator issue by the sound of it.

Symptoms are: Auto wind mode (one quick push) down, takes the window down ok but motor keeps winding after glass is fully down with a clicking noise until I cancel it.

Coming up window goes about halfway then stops, more winding and clicking noises

Will take door apart this arvo but what am I likely to be looking for?

Thanks Mike but if it is the regulator I'd prefer to go new

Cheers :)

they hardly ever fail . just go good second hand one .

i have never had one fail on any of my e34's and have only sold a couple of the last six years . not unlike the e36 , e39 , e38 ones .

I have seen one e34 regulator fail.. the passenger side one is a major pita to replace.. drivers side is quite simple.. Have seen lots of clips break on the arms and make big thumping and clicking noises and jam the window when winding up..

Maybe yours are worn due to excessive use around education facilities...

i have heard of some little plastic part breaking, but downst expalin why it would keep going at the bottom, unless the plastc part has a role in limit switching.

Be aware of the different types Simon. Have plenty if you have no joy elsewhere.
