BMtouring 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 Hi all, As an active member of the German E39 forum I got more and more interested (obsessed ) in my 2002 E39 530iAT. So I started to get knowledgeable in the coding and such. Apart from the many tips and tricks for the mechanical side of the car, I'm very interested in the software. I'm happy to share information and this is how I got to find this forum. Apart of course from our ever looming desire to emigrate as far away as we can. Which pretty much is where you all are. That too triggered me: what if there are no E39's there!?! In the German forum someone once asked for beta testers for an mp3 replacement for the cd changer. As mine just gave up, I applied and to my surprise, I actually got one to test. After a year of no music (other than radio) and not really missing it, now I find myself ripping my old CD's and enjoying the re-acquintance. The car is a Touring, as mentioned, with Sandbeige leather inside and Oxford Green II outside. It is a special edition at that time in The Netherlands (yes, it's originally a Dutch one even though I searched all over Germany for four months to find one like this) which means it's got pretty much everything we know over here except the memory seats and glass roof. (ok, and no double glazing, buttock massage or sliding loading floor but that's exotic even in Switserland) So, here we go. I hope my information can help you to find solutions to your problems and questions. BMtouring 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 Thanks for the kind welcomes, pics are on the way. About the Touring: it has airsuspension at the rear with leveling-control. Never noticed it untill last week I put the seats down, covered everything with an old blanket and filled it with firewood. Start the engine and up it went, funny to see as I've never seen that happen on a normal car. In the older days BMW's were easily recognised when loaded: top of the rear wheels went in, bottom went out. The twin door is great too: the glass opens separately from the rest. So first the whole door is open to load the big stuff, and when things start pooring out: close the lid, open the window and add some more. Great for holiday trips and shopping! I've had my share of things to do and change though: new radiator, new bushings front, Automatic Gearbox maintenance at the factory in Germany and the front ball bearings are up next. Oh, and the doors started to leak (dried out inner linings) so that's fixed now too. Changed the Xenon bulbs as the original started to fade. Now I'm considering to change the boot liner with that of a black touring. This beige is rather easily smudged and it quickly looks like the whole boot is dirty. Even with a rubber tray. Next things to do: get a digital TV / movie player so I can throw out the dvd changer and have it all nicely tucked away and controlled over the existing system. Like the CD changer is now replaced by an MP3 player, I'd like these things to be there, work as if it's factory built, yet invisible when not used. Don't know what to do with the displays in the headrests though, they need a better quality or better positioning than now. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Mine is a 540i sedan, but I would gladly swap it for a Touring Would be interested in details of the MP3 stacker unit you have fitted / trialed. Member Jochen on here is very clever regarding electronics on the E39, so watch out for his posts. BMtouring 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) The 600 looks good Frank @camera doctor: AFAIK Jochen worked together at one time with Tobias to develop this or the ancestors of this device (stuff connected to the I-bus) @KiwiTouring: actually no, these I bought for my wintertyres but when I bought the car the tyres had to be replaced and back then I did not have these wheels yet. So I put them on my summerwheels - the original styling 50 - and in spring put the summertyres on these. It's going to be swapped this spring though, as I sold the wheels on the picture. I'm looking for something else, perhaps I'll go for something lower for autobahn work. concerning the CP600: pm me and I'll be happy to share info.
