So, here we are about to remove the auto box from the Dead M20.

What tool do I use? it's some odd looking thing.

Torx headed bolts?

You can usually fit 12point sockets over them. Much easier when out of the car too.

What size torx?

Gonna go out and buy one.

Socket wouldn't move it without possible stripping.

2 sizes. But forget which two, sorry. Large ones on main bellhousing, and smaller ones on inspection cover.

PS - if you're doing it in the car, some long drive extensions are mandatory, and a universal optional, but very, very handy.

E10 and E14 IIRC,

or 8mm / 11mm 12point sockets.

My bellhousing bolts are 19mm hex head. Much easier.

You can buy fairly cheap (but functional) sets covering a range of sizes from the likes of Repco. You probably won't use them often enough to need to buy expensive ones. Most of my tools are decent, but I have some powerbuilt torx sockets and I've yet to damage one.

I went to buy a set of torx sockets from Repco a while back, They didn't sell any seperate so I was going to buy a set. The cheapest set was like $70. I was like F that, I don't have THAT many use for them to justify buying a set.

i used an 11mm and a 14mm, one size bigger than the normal size E30s use for everything!

I know what you're saying, but $70 is bloody cheap compared to buying decent brands. And a heap cheaper than paying someone else to remove the gearbox for you. DIY is cheap, but it's not free. I've bought individual sockets for over $30 when I've needed something unusual, and don't want crap that might break.

got a set for 50 bucks!

has everything we need, but it's 3/8" and we only have a ratchet and bar, which we managed to break the bar...

only a couple more to remove but f**k the one at the top is tight.

anyways, my new motor arrived. it's filthy as f**k and the loom is uber messy, I think I'll swap looms.

Fuuu, Looms are different.

the throttle position sensor on the B25 is different to the one on the B20.

the B25 loom is for an E34, so it's not going to be very tidy if I use it. nor will the ECU beable to fit where it should, nor will I have a rubber bung to seal the hole (lol)

Can I swap the whole position sensor?

I have a sensor if you want it, just $3.50 for postage and it's yours..

Just 2 screws and it changes over. You may have to remove the throttle body to swap it though.

Does your one have a circle 6 pin plug?

Yep, the B25 doesn't.

Whoops yeah you already have a sensor lol. My bad.

Those e34 throttle sensors on the m20 are variable Throttle position sensors for the auto box. E30 one is just a wide open throttle switch.

Spigot bearing??? Use a dyna-bolt from Mitre 10. Get one that is the diameter of the hole and wind it up then it expands and pulls the bearing out

torque setting should be 105nm

I've never replaced the flywheel bolts. But use locktite on them.

You are replacing the spigot bearing I guess?

One other way you can remove them is by packing the with grease from behind with a grease gun and pushing it out.

Couldn't afford a manual conversion haha.

with the automagic the flywheel thing is more like a starter wheel and that's it? hence just torqued properly and loctite might be fine.

Yeah just torque it up to the propper specs and use locktite. Autos dont have a flywheel, they just have that plate the starter works off, correct.

Just put it all back togeather with all the other little plates and stuff that went with it and the torque converter and do it up properly. Use your old bolts from the b20 auto because they will be a different length than the b25 flywheel ones ( if it came with any )
