Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Do you literally just light the rubber on fire and wait for it to melt away? And then pull out the metal? Have been trying to avoid this, but have come to the conclusion that I have very minimal pacience with anything. Car is E30 325. Cheers Ashkan
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Takes AGES with a lighter cos the bushes don't stay alight. Propane torch FTW. But yeah alot of people do it this way..
OLLIE 26 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 save the environment and take it somewhere with a press. You're going to need to press the new ones in anyway so you might as well do it all in one go.
tibbs.james 1 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 You will find you can carefully hacksaw a bit off one end so you can press it out with a gear puller or threaded pipe and some washers I managed to do mine with a 2 jaw Gear Puller Subframe bushings are a diffierent story BTW a Hand Held Mapp Gas Torch Will do the trick but it still takes a fair while to burn through the rubber. you have a few options go talk to some guys and offer them some beers if they can do it for you as a foreinger Job Good Luck Hope this helps
CamB 48 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 I did it with a torch - takes ages. I avoided setting them on fire (too much smoke) and heated the inner crush tube until it could be pulled out with a pair of pliers. With that gone, the rest of the bushing could be pushed out with a big screwdriver. A press would be 1,000,000 times easier and less likely to go wrong. DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 see my build thread about not seeing the house / garage on fire...
Greg111 13 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 As the other guys said, the easiest option by far is with a press, did all my bushes with our one, find someone/garage with one, shouldn't cost much at all.
Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Cheers fellas, after an hour or so of sitting there with a butane torch, I gave up and dropped the lot off to Ernst. Did it for $40 so was happy.

Driftit 2078 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 Take it into Autolign on Carbine Road. Had mine done there last week. They can also supply you with new bushes. Gave them my entire subframe to get all the rear bushes done.
Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted January 22, 2010 Cheers Dan, they were a bit far just to get the bushes pressed out. Will get them pressed in locally I guess, it's cheap enough. Will get Regan to do the coilovers though.
