Mark 178 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 Hi Lisa I suggest you spend a bit more time researching BMWs before you commit to a car based on what an obviously unknowledgable seller is telling you. There is no such car as a 318e, this must be a mistake on the registration. The car will be a 318i. the "/2" is probably referring to the fact that it is a 2 door coupe. These cars are used in the E30 racing series, but that shouldn't sway you to purchase the car in question. With regards to the AC Schnitzer comment: AC Schnitzer is an aftermarket tuning company who modify BMWs. If you post a picture of the car you're looking at buying someone will be able to tell you if it indeed has an AC Schnitzer kit on it. Good luck. Guest Simon* Report post Posted May 13, 2010 Hey Lisa welcome along It sounds like it could be a reasonable car, especially as a manual. Unlikely it's lightweight, or got much in the way of go-faster bits but could still be a nice one. Do you have the year, rego number or even better a picture you could show us? demonic_toy 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 Oh ok...I car jammed it though & it had e/2 but when i googled it only came up with 318i like you said...Was told it was very rare. Do they normally have wind up windows & wind up sun roof??? lol seems so acient to me! I rang up a few wreckers cose it needs a new rear diff to see how much it would cost & they seemed to know what i was talking about...but they just wanting my cash huh lol I tried to put a pic on but the card wont read.... demonic_toy 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 you can pick up a diff for $50-$250 depending on condition. One place i rang said i would have to give them my old diff & pay $400 for a new one coz it had to be a special type....but i was clever & shopped around for a bargain & found 1 in auckland 4 $80...Rather pay gas & get that!! Although have no idea about the condition...Has to be better then the one thats on it though!! Its welded up so it hops along when you turn corners & chews through the tyres!! Crazy! demonic_toy 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 If it's got a locky, I can almost garuntee the people who own it have thrashed it to hell and back.. yea the guy that has it had it for about a month & decided to do a roll back @ a party & destryed it...it was already making noises before that...I cant realy complain about that though as my car has been a tad thrashed through the years!! lol & the libero is ruff as...but yea i just dont know! I think its more the look of the car that i like more then anything!
bellicose 9 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 By how you've described the car i personally would walk away. You could always sell your Mitsy and buy a tidy, non molested 318. My 2c.
demonic_toy 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 I would except i cant sell my car then buy another because i need a car everyday & the vr4 is being worked on, I mainly want the car because i think it has more appeal & have more interest then the libero....I would probably just fix the things on it & try swapping it for another car...But i like to know things about cars i own before getting them so its easy to trade on.. E30 325i Rag-Top 2956 Report post Posted May 14, 2010 (edited) I would except i cant sell my car then buy another because i need a car everyday & the vr4 is being worked on,Good choice in looking at E30s, the downside is that whatever one you choose it is going to be around 20 years old, and things will go wrong in some way or other. If you a dependant on having a car, then it might let you down at some point. The up side of that is that there is a very active BMW community, through this site and others, which is very good for parts and advice, etc. Quite a few Hamilton members on here as well, and I'm pretty sure most would be keen to help a lady with her car troubles. Even if this particular car isn't the right one for you, there will be a good E30 out there that you can buy.
