BMW's & Tinting & NZ

Recommended Posts

Haven't you ever wanted to have your entire car tinted, front to back. I always did. The way we cant tint the windscreen leaves the car looking incomplete. Looking at the US of A and some other countrys that allow you to do a complete tint job.

I'm aware of the fact that we are not allowed to tint the front windshield of our cars as ruled by land transport NZ. On the other hand, some of the imports these days seem to have tints all around(very dark way over 35% I'd say); No body seems to be making a fuss about that, but when we want to tint our cars all around they wont let us.. Why the double stranded on this when it comes to most other cars.

The maximum we can tint is 35% which is "Okay", its not so dark that you are biased to judge the road your driving on.

All BMW's come with 5% tint from factory

If I was to have my windshield tinted, how should I go about doing that, I reckon a professional wont want to do it, even if I ask to do it on my risk will they? Im prepared to pay the extra $$ to have it removed before the WOF inspections and spend even more $$ to have it installed afterward s, I'm even ready to be stopped by the police

(And I am a decent driver, Yes like everyone else in the world I sometimes dont drive within the speed limit, but I've never been pulled over in the past 10 years. <_< )

after talking to a few places about getting my wagon tinted with 5% sides and back (also illegal), i found that the couple of tint shops i talked to were all willing to do it, but got you to sign a form saying that (in a nutshell) they advised me it was illegal, and therefore they are not responsible for any offences because of it being on a road car. None charged an extra price on top of their normal prices however

Hey Andy, So how did it go after that ? Did you get it done and did you have any trouble with the police ?

By the way, Im not aware of the rules on Wagons, but you mind telling me what do you mean 5% tint are illegal ? I thought you could do 35% all around the car

I havent got the Volvo done yet. i was just investigating the price for later down the track. Probably take it to Seth when im in aucks for BDO or something. But your far more likely to be done for a tinted windscreen than the sides of the car being darker than they should be, mainly because its more obvious

5% is darker than 35%. the percentage is the amount of light that can pass through it, not the blackness (if that makes sence.. blackness is inversley proportionate).

5% is only allowed on commercial vehicles, and/or on windows rear of the rearmost seating positions. Seth will probably chime in sooner or later on the exact regulations

You can't tint all the way around in California. I imagine that this is the same elsewhere here too.

It is just the fact that there is no WOF or similar here, you would only get picked up on it if you were stopped by the CHP. I have never seen a car here with the windscreen tinted. Tinting the windscreen is probably the stupidest thing I have heard today.

Hey Grant, Not exactly mate, unlike back in NZ, up in the US some laws actually vary from state to state, California being one of the exceptions if I remember right, I read somewhere there's quite a number of states where its not illegal, but dont hold me to my word.

Good to know you dont have WOF there but if you haven't seen any cars with tints on the windshield then maybe because in your state its illegal to have tints on the windshield and b. you haven't seen a lot of cars or dont pay much attention (no offense). A lot of newer cars these days seem to have darker windows all around, They say its tints from the factory (at least here in NZ). And Im not talking about all the rice burners either. But as far as calling it stupid goes, I guess each to their own

Cheers,

just get 20% all around bro you'll be sweet, Ive had mine for over a couple years and have had no trouble with wofs police etc etc, traffic cops usually only ping you for tints if your being a kunt to them or they havent reached there monthly reduction tickets (quota)

For f**k sake, just do some research regarding the law on tints.

It is ILLEGAL to tint front screen, we are in NEW ZEALAND and what you READ 'bout what they do overseas has NO bearing on what you can do here.

35% is the legal limit so that's it.

It seems some just can't understand the LAW.

Noobs pfft.

/thread.

Hmm, so you will pay extra $$$ to get tints removed and put back on before and after WOF's but can't stump up to have a headliner fixed properly and then have a big cry when it turns to custard on you doing it the cheap way!

Your not shady with a different username are you?

To MIster X (BimmerzE36) Tinting your front screen is illegal, the reason being ...so you can see the child running out on the road, or the little old lady approaching the pedestrian crossing... end of story. Bimmersport does not promote illegal modifications to motor vehicles nor do members need or want to discuss them. Please keep this sort of thing off the forum.
