I imagine she is having the same problems i was having when i was buying an ae86. Just about every insurance company laughed at a 24 year old toyota levin being worth 15k and nobody would insure it for that value apart from nac

I would have thought you would need a valuation to prove to the insurance company its worth the what they are wanting to insure it for?

NAC = National Auto Club, www.nac.co.nz

+1 for NAC. It can be hard to find details for them but they are very good for enthusiast/specialist cars and have always accepted my valuation. Have not claimed with them though.

options are:

Copy paste insurance companies who pull from a mac donalds menu when profiling cars cut insurance costs and advertise on TV. Covers 95% of people / vehicles

Or insures like NAC or specific car club insurance.

Maybe hit up the BMWCC and see if they have any deals currently running with affiliates.

AMI do agreed value on Full Cover, and they insure my car for $4,000....

Failing that CLIC insure me because AMI decided a shitty magna is "too powerful"

I made a thread about them a while ago on another forum, people had only had good things to say.

A friend here in Christchurch is also going through the exact same problem. What he is doing is getting the boys at DCH Motorsport to do a re-evaluation, the funny thing is they are using Harolds car as the benchmark to make their calculations.

I've only heard very bad things about NAC when it comes time to making claims.

I'm insured with Classic Cover, I'm moving to Swann Insurance. They consider the E30 a "classic vehicle", so it's cheap.

I'm turning 23 this year.

NAC insurance were the only ones that would have me when i was 17 and owned a rs legacy.

and when i brought andrews m325i i insured it with them for 7k and at the moment it costs me $900 per year for full coverage. bare in mind im 20yrs old so her's could be similiar. could try getting it insured in the parents name and have her as a second driver which should be cheaper. as long as he can trust her :P

How about the normal insurance co's like Ami, Tower and AA insurance?

I have my vehicles with AA and they have agreed to a price that we are both happy with, the hardest car i had was my 92 Subaru Legacy which is a reasonably rare BF5 Wagon tuned by STI Prodrive!

AA spent a few days to track down an agreed value which when they agreed was at least a few k more then i was probably hoping for...so happy on my side. B)

Get her to take it to BMW NZ for a price evaluation then take that to STATE and you will be insured for that amount no questions asked. If the car is as nice as you say it was they should value it reasonably. Your aren't guaranteed full payout from ANY insurer without an pre-insurance evaluation.

Really? Classic Cover assured me that agreed value was the only pay out value. It directly affects the premium payed too.

It's the same with Swann and any other specialist insurance company if I'm not mistaken.

As previously mentioned AMI do agreed value on their full cover policy, just need to get a valuation from a registered dealer. This is what I have done for mine and have agreed value of $6,500.00

wasnt going to post, but ill throw my hand up for ClubAuto (Tower iirc). Only ones that would insure the E30 (including CLIC and NAC), possibly because of my record: crash + speeding fines + 18

Also, probably irrelevant but.., I also shopped around for insurance on the Volvo, and they were the cheapest.

Don't they have a limited mileage policy?

I know the 205 is with them and they don't cover day to day driving in it

Yup, which is why I'll be going to Swann when I need to use the touring as a daily.

Thanks for all the suggestions... I'll pass them on to Harold & his daughter.

BTW: They will be joing the forum soon and you'll be able to see the new look of the beast. It's coming in for a service soon so I'll post up some photos.

Emailed classic cover (vero) & they assure me the agreed value sum insured is the $payout if it was a total loss , any alteration to value would be at MY REQUEST. Had 3 cars with them straight up crowd dont know if Mark Joblin is still the principal but my claim was done via net , just sent photos & quote from my prefered repairer & all done even asked if i was completely satisfied with the job before paying the repairer. But dont know if they take on under 25 s .

I know Glenn has his info so this is jst for anyone interested

I did exactly the same thing-you guys made me nervous lol. They too assured me agreed value IS payout value

I have the e39 540 for $10k @ $360 & e30 schnitzer for $12k + $5k of spares @ $370.

Both were limited to 5000k pa but I extended to 8000k for an additional $19 each.

last year in September when I was re-evaluating my insurance, the only company that said they could do actual agreed value cover was AA (and wow was it going to cost a lot)

be very careful with the wording of the policy

even if the company says it's agreed value on the phone, it might not actually be a true agreed value policy

I have my 323i 1985 insured at nac for $6500, but since I am 18 and have a few tickets in my record the costs are through the roof for an old car, Im paying 1200$ a year (25-26$ a week) and I pay $1200 if I crash etc

Did you ever do this? I just called Swann and they said my touring does not fit their description of classic.

Also, classic cover say they don't insure <25 year olds, so I'm interested in how you got them to cover you.
