Petrol Economy!

Recommended Posts

After a discussion in another thread re; petrol economy i thought i would ask what other members get out of a tank of gas or per 100km.

My 318i - approx 500-650km and the missus' - 318is 650-700km...which makes me believe mine could do with a decent tune...it is still a far cry from the 250-350km i get out of my Subaru and 300-350km out of the Paj.:o

f**k all.

about 500 open road for the E30. and probably less than 350 in town.

Magna gets 750+ but it has a 71L Tank.

You cant compare fuel economy like that. going by your method, i get better fuel economy in my turb'd volvo than my friend does in her charade because my fuel tank is twice the size...

Per 100km in the E30 (M20B20) i got around 9/100 which was pretty good for how i drive. I havent had the volvo long enough to know yet, but its about the same. Heavier + turbo - spirited driving ha

that's why i don't mind the little 318i as i put up 300 - 400 kms a fortnight as a daily for work.

Fair enough, but in that same logic does your Volvo get the same per 100km as her Charade :P it was just out of interest...if per 100km is better then so be it ;)

I'm way to scared to actually measure what I get from a tank. I love driving too much and am still a bit heavy footed to get a decent mileage around town.

However, Auck - Tga - Auck leaves just over a quarter of a tank. With passing, a decent blat up the Kaimais and a bit of driving round Tga so open road mileage is excellent for the car (M52) IMO.

My E36 325 manual, (now sold) used to do Christchurch to Dunedin and return on a tank 800+ kms 2 up and cruising at 100 to 110kmh. Around town it was more how far it would go on $20.

5.7kpl :(

that was me in my new E28, so i drove like a crazy fool.

And now i have learned the lesson that $115 a week for petrol is just not gonna work i have begun to drive more economically

I'm anal, I keep a log book. The touring's very good on gas.

I do 9L/100km +/- 0.7L.

City + commuter traffic mainly. Sees at least one spirited drive a day though. :D

mine does 8L/100km around town with a heavy right foot. On Motorways, 5.5L - 6.5L/100km @ 100km/h, according to the cluster reading anyways

1987 318i Auto - Open Road being super easy on pedal = 15 - 20km p/ L

- Open Road normal driving = 10 - 15km p / L

- Open Road fun driving = 5 - 10km p / L

Around town in Dunedin, too many hills to get any accuracy, but very very poor economy

1987 325i Manual - Just getting it on the road, so will figure that out soon

89 Toyota Corona

Best open road 6l/100km, usually about 7 though

round town 7.5 if I'm driving normally, 9.5-10 if I'm thrashing it

The old man's X5 3.0d is crazily efficient, 9-10 around town and 8 on the open road. Not bad for a 2100kg truck with average aerodynamics. One time he got 12l/100km towing a boat full to the brim with crap and driving pretty spiritedly. I couldn't believe it, considering the old territory did about 24l/100km under the same circumstances.

E30 325i (2.8l) open road 9.4L per 100km, with the odd full throttle burst. Town about 16L per 100kms

E39 530i open road 9.1L per 100km also with the odd full throttle burst. Town about 13L per 100kms.

Could probably do better, but fun vs economy, fun usually wins!

What is involved with a professional 'tune'? How much does it usually cost?

My OBC is reading 8.9L/100km, but I don't believe it. How accurate are these? I'm too poor to fill the 75L tank to test properly :(. When I first got the car on the road it got up to about 16L/100km. E30 325i Manual
