Lucan 196 Report post Posted August 16, 2010 Can't remember seeing it anywhere so: NEWMARKET VIADUCT SOUTHBOUND CLOSURE - 4/5 September On the weekend of 4th and 5th September the southbound carriageway of SH1 in the vicinity of the Newmarket viaduct will be closed to carry out the necessary works to enable the opening of the new southbound bridge by Monday 6th September. To avoid major disruption on the surrounding arterial road network it is essential to avoid driving anywhere in Auckland during the weekend unless absolutely essential. Due to the enormous task of getting our message across to the whole of Auckland and the surrounding areas, we are requesting that everyone forward this email to as many people as possible. Please forward to any schools, sports clubs etc to get our message across. Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated. - Ian Harbeck, Project Manager, Newmarket Viaduct

[email protected] 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2010 Shall be great once it's open though. However as with most upgrades like this it will just force the bottle next some place else... I am especially looking forward to the tunnel opening under Victoria park as part of the new motorway in the city. Will be great to hear the engine exhaust sounds echo on the walls! Cale 36 Report post Posted August 16, 2010 All these road works are a big waste of money as I see it. I use public transport - buses and ferries - and I think I am pretty much the ony one who does. Auckland will remain one big carpark until we stop importing cars and invest in cheaper public transport. Meh, age old debate though anyway.
DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2010 it's a combination of both improved public transport and also improved motorway systems. there needs to massive improvements in things like access to the cbd to the shore, if they made a second layer to the harbour bridge for cycle/foot traffic i know i personally would look at biking to work. Every thing in NZ is half-assed , tunnel north wtf single lane? Half the motorway through vic park underground half above ground??? Not until they decide to actually invest in doing something properly even tho it might cost more but will facilitate the needs of the country for the 20+ years nothing will change... Lack of future proofing...
|ncary 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2010 If you can used to the one way system, old people, the cold, the easterly, the lack of hills, and asians you should move here. Traffic is sweet as! Unless it's rush hour.

M5V8 337 Report post Posted August 17, 2010 (edited) whilst welly's is normally better traffic wise, this morning a truck overturned on the porriua motorway blocking traffic. Everyone was then diverted over the hayways hill (54) and I hear a car went off the road there too. Nice. wellington chaos due to two accidents. what the hell would happen in a REAL emergency? And yet they jack up the petrol excise every chance they get and blame the road toll on speeding and drink driving.
