Just turn your stereo up

Or you could do a Tim and take the baffles out of your muffler

Yes they are adjustable, and not too hard to do if you go to someone who is familiar with the cars. Your regular mechanic (read non-bmw specialist) may be able to do it, but I have heard many horror stories of mal-adjusted tappets when someone has gone to a non bmw tech.

Shouldn't be too expensive provided that is the problem.

Had mine done recently, but also had a lot of other work done - new cambelt (and associated bits like idler/tensioner/gaskets), new water pump, coolant system flush, new plugs, general tune - at the same time. Total bill was $6 hundy and something.

it could also be your exhaust manifold, does

the ticking get louder and louder when you accelarate?

The studs can get lose and make it tick.

Get your tapps dones tho and it should fix it.

But the manifold could be the next place to look.

Your tappets should only take an hours labour.

Mine sounds like a sewing machine on P... and if the hole in the dash had a stereo I'd turn it up..

Not worried though still goes sweet

Hi ive got the ticking noise as well. It only comes every now and then. Basically it starts to tick and the frequency of the ticks increases with increasing RPM until about 4000rpm when it stops. And if it ticks on the motorway in 5th gear if i drop down a gear and get it upto 4000rpm the ticking stops and so when i go back to 5th its not there either. Just wondering whether i might have the same problem? Its a bit embarassing to get the tick when there are passengers in the car...!! Is it bad to drive around with the tick (like i have been doing.... )? And it is costly to fix?

Cheers,

stolen.

Probably won't kill your car in them meantime, but if it gets noticeably worse, get it fixed sooner rather than later.

Cannot guarantee anything of course, but should be a cheap fix.
