1996 E39 540i Manual Conversion

Recommended Posts

This has been discussed pretty recently... can't find the thread though. You will need the specific 6 speed box for the E39 540i... they are very rare and you will need to source it from either the States or Germany.

You will also need to find someone who is able to sort out the electronics side of things. (Re-programming the car to accept the manual box basically).

Cost... ummm, dunno... but would be a five figure sum.

General consensus is save up for an M5.

Yeah I was just looking for a ball park figure to see if it is worth the bother. Best option would be buy an M5 for dirt cheap from back home (UK) and have it shipped over. Either that or get myself an RS6 Avant and ship it over.

Close to the value of the car 6-7k+

Much more if you get someone else to do all the work for you and it depends if you buy all new 'wear' items when doing the conversion

f**k I wish we had the availability and cheapness of cars/parts like the UK.

All good, looks like my triptronic will have to suffice.

Cheers lads
