E36 Wiper Speed

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've recently downgraded from my E46 to an E36.

One of the things I noticed (upon many others) was the speed of the wipers. Theres 3 settings.

Setting 1: Approx 15 Sec delay between "wipes"

Setting 2: Approx 3 Sec delay between "wipes"

Setting 3: Continuous "fast wipes"

I'm finding it a bit odd how the delay for setting one is so long and also how setting two isn't a continuous wipe a "normal speed".

Is there something wrong? or is this the case for all E36's?

Cheers,

Andrew

Pretty sure the wiper speed will slow down when you are stationary vs moving. That means "slow when moving" will mean "intermitten when stationary" even if you haven't touch the stalk's position.

Thanks Vincent, I'm aware of the slowing down when not moving thing, but I'm afraid this is not the issue for me :(

Brent - Would you know whether the module is mechanically timed (i.e using a RC circuit) or digitally timed?

Mine has delayed wipe, constant slow wipe, and "violently launch the water off the windscreen" fast constant.

Cool - thanks Ron.

Definitely something wrong with mine :( I'll try chanigng the module to see if it fixes it.

Wipers on my E36 operate as follows:

-Off

- Intermittent (non adjustable)

- Slow Continuous

- Fast Continuous ( can launch water into hyperspace)

The above concurrs with what the original manual says

When stopped slow continuous becomes intermittent

Pull the wiper stalk off, pull the back off and clean the contacts, had the same problem and this fixed it or get a second hand unit from Ray.
