M62B35 Noise

Recommended Posts

Have a whirring sound coming from the passengers side at the front of the block. Have been told it is internal. Anyone have any ideas?

My guess would be a lifter grinding the head

Hmmm Westy had his m62tub44 altenator bearing seize and blow up on him, it sounded like this before it finally did.

the tapping/rattleing sound im not sure .. but the clue is when you turn the car off you can hear the distinct churp sound of a seized bearing of some sort.

I wouldnt run it anymore until someone looks at it..

Check all the external rotating parts before pulling the motor to bits first.

Yeah have done at the mechanics. Power steering and alternator have been taken off and inspected with no qualms. Going into a BMW specialist.

140k, or around that. This was bought from McMillan 7 or 8 years ago. Havent had any problems with it, now this. Sounds too loud to be Vanos too yah think?

After hearing all that, I'd be reluctant to start it even one more time. Rocker covers and top timing chain covers need to come off first and have a look.
