How to change the automatic gear?

My question is, how do you change the gear from park to D? I'm confused because this is what my current automatic gear stick looks like:

I find bringing it up to around 4000rpm before moving the lever into drive helps

Pull it back as hard as you can, making sure it bends the gear stick. Put the foot hard on the gas keeping it there up a dead end street! Once you hit the wall at the other end, claim it of the insurance as a right off and buy a go-kart??

Actually i must admit that got me too in the mondeo we use for work. I use thhe handbrake and neutral in my bmws, but those were built before the days when you had to have your foot on the brake to move it and in park to remove key etc.

I had my first X6 drive the other day and I have to admit I sat there for a few seconds pushing & prodding until I saw the unlock button.

It's very different but i got used to it pretty quickly
