Thoughts on this M3

Recommended Posts

My first thoughts, if it floats your boat or how long is a piece of string. Just looking at it as a motor vehicle, no BMW or M3 emotion I would have to say it is over priced imo other will disagree no doubt.

nice car, nice condition from what you can see.

only 18" wheels... (19's look way better IMO)

and you would want to argue the price abit as it's def on the high end.

There's plenty of these around....but you get what you pay for I guess.

47k is low.

Make sure it's got service history from BMW.

If I bought it for myself I think the SMG would bother me.

Spent a similar amount with similar kms a few months back. These guys deal with lots of M3's both NZ and Imported and know the cars and market well. You can pay less , but upside of lower KM car is you'll get a few more years before changing car. ($10k doesn't seem much of a premium if you get another 3 years out of it)

In terms of SMG , I wouldn't go back to manual now , Runs as an auto for the commute, In both auto and manual modes you can select settings between softer gear changes and very quick manual changes. I love the full throttle gear changes for swift and safe overtaking in manual mode and matched rev downshifts.

The 18's will also give a greater range of tyre choices in NZ , Many people say that the car rides and handles better than the OEM 19" wheels(Bar lightweight CSL rim). I haven't tried 19" rimmed M3 so can't comment for sure.

SMG M3s are awesome. Real nice to drive in traffic and awesome when ya going for it.

I think most the SMG critics haven't driven the SMG in this car...

Agreed , I think the $$ is a little on the high side so am going to keep nosing around, Its in the wrong colour for what I am after anyway.

SMG can cost quite a bit to fix if things go wrong, manual gearboxs don't go wrong.

That yanyan joker is pretty hard to deal with. I was interested in a Cayenne Turbo before I bought my ML and from his emails his English was poor but given that I found him rather arrogant.
