Tyre Flat spots - fixable?

Recommended Posts

After thinking i had a wheel bearing problem, I have found a flat spot on one of my tyres which i bought 2nd hand. Its causing a vibration though the front wheels.

Anyone know whether this can be ground off or fixed short of replacement?

I will be speaking to the seller but I have had them sitting for 6 months......

Put it on back. Do burnouts until even.

I was gonna add, "apart from doing burnouts...."

Is that a proven fix?

trick from a motorsport buddy of mine....

get a can of that puncture repair foam / goo stuff that you fire into the tyre.

Quickly take for high speed drive & it balances out. Haven't tried it myself but apparently it works ok.

I don't know, do it and find out?

Best result I had was throw away the tyre and buy a new one, there is a reason people throw them out!

Thanks for that but "do a burnout" and throw it away" were options i had already considered.

Was hoping to find an alternative to throwing away a $300 tyre with 90% tread.

What about finding someone in NZ that shaves dot tyres for racing. They maybe able to remove enough of the tread to line up with the flat spot ?

Is it flat from being parked on for the last 6 months, or is it from a lock up?

If it's from being parked, they will often disappear fairly quickly.

Agree - if it's from being parked they tend to go away with a bit of driving - you could always run them at higher pressure too.

The tyre has been stored for 6 month un-ftted. (on its side)
