e36 Rear speaker 6x9 adapters

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Looking for some 6x9 adapters for my 320i and I only seem to be able to find em on eBay in the UK - to which I was like Bugger that..

I have replaced the 4in speakers in the rear soundboxes but they still sound like crap (my old car had factory 6x9s and 6x8s so am used to good punchy sound).

I dare not go down the road of surface-mounting bigger speakers on the rear tray as it'll a) look nasty and B) I want it stock looking.

I even tried to find some old 6in/6.5in speakers (just for the mounting bracket) from a e36 to replace my boxed 4in.

Also, anyone found any really great sounding 5in front/footwell speakers? The ones I got still sound muddy :S

i have some of the premium audio 5.25" speakers for the rear of the e36 .

you could make the adaptor out of 20mm thick mdf or plywood

I tend to buy things rather than make em, i'm not very gifted in the making stuff department as it often involves blood and swearing :P

Ooo Just had an Idea... Buying 6.5in speaker rings and mounting them Underside the speaker holes - that would work right, and just use self-drilling screw thingys to hold it in place though the factory screwholes?

dont put 6x9 plates there either do what brent suggested or just by very good 4 inch speakers and if the are going to be run through an amp run only high frequencies through them as for the front with some modifications the foot well can fit 6 or 6.5 which is what ive done in both of my e36 and im very impressed with the sound quality.

head unit-sony gt700ui

front-6.5inch soundstream sst6.5pro

back-soundstream 40 rms

fusion am41200 amp

fusion 12inch sub

amp runs sub and front speakers

front speakers are most vital the speakers can handle the full power of the amp in a rms or true wattage level running the rear through amp was not necessary as the stereo provided that power well but to have 6x9 would help but i found that 4inch speakers run well but headunit well need to be set to higher frequency's to pass not low or bass

Hey thanks for the info :)

I've been investigating some "high end" 4in for the rear and some good component speakers for the footwells and just replace the tweeter in the front doors.

I have an Amp waiting to put in along with a tasteful sub - i'm not after pure Doof doof.

These are the speakers and headunit i'm likely gonna get:

5in front speakers: http://www.parallelimported.co.nz/car-audi...0-speakers.html

4in rear speakers: http://www.parallelimported.co.nz/car-audi...i-speakers.html

Headunit: http://www.parallelimported.co.nz/car-audi...-head-deck.html

My current JVC headunit has terribad audio configuration and amp/sub control.

Bear in mind ibboostn said 'with some modifications'... If you just want to drop better speakers in the front factory mounting position without having to work at making them fit then your better off getting 5 1/4 inch components. Maybe something like this:

If you don't mind getting the tools out then 6 or 6.5 inch would have a little more range.

These are what I am after - but do you think I can find any for sale? LOL

I just really dislike the way 4in speakers sound :S
