330ci vs 540i performance

As some know I have been looking for a 540i for the power upgrade from my current car.

My friend suggested to me to get a 330ci instead.

Realistically which car would be faster 0-100? and 100+?

Went to test drive a 2003 CLK500 but sadly didn't end up buying it. Any of these cars produce similar performance?

They are both low-6 sec for 0-100, but given more torque in the 540, I would say overtaking is easier in that.

Realistically will you be doing drag races?

The v8 isnt that quick, has a great amount of torque and power when up and going, not that great from a standstill.

And is the deciding factor in your car purchase 0-100 times?

E39 is a heavy car, 1800kg+ has a fair amount of understeer, has a steering box, i just went through a set of rear tyres in under 6000km.

330 will be better handling wise and more nimble.

I'd be going for an E36 M3 Evo in 6 speed manual form, it would do 0-100 in a decent time and be fun to drive, assuming your budgets upto 20k ish?
