cliffdunedin 8 Report post Posted October 14, 2012 Hey guys, I have noticed a couple of times this week that my e36 auto, almost seems to slip for a second from a standing start so I tried on my driveway that has a slight angle and it does seem to slip just a little, strange thing is if i put it in 1st gear this problem does not occur anymore and it grabs fine. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? I've had a search and have found a few could be's but would be good if anyone has a good idea. Cheers I put synthetic in a replacement (trademe $300) Jatco box and it's brilliant - however as it was out I got to change all the fluid. Don't think the torque converter drains fully with the box in the car. The fill procedure for the E36 is tricky - you need a u shaped tube and a pump, as the filler is a vertical tube in the bottom of the sump. Level needs to be set with the car in the air, the box at operating temp and a set speed - with the rear wheels turning... If it's a Jatco box it's nearly identical to Nissan, so get the filter and gasket from your friendly auto specialist, not the dealer. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

(it leaked due to an installation f**k up) Fluid is $32/L..... for Fully Synthetic from them. Can't complain, the car works really well lol. NZ BMW 368 Report post Posted October 15, 2012 I would imagine it's the same for the E36, on my E39 you can't drain all of the fluid from the torque converter so they've drained and refilled and I will go back and have it drained and refilled again after about 1500km's to make sure we've got all the oil fluid out. I didn't bother as the oil wasn't burned, just looking oldish. but it should have fairly clean oil now since it's been drained twice, that's 4L each time.
