10"s are for parcel trays,

are you high?

subs do not sit in parcel trays like your average 6x9....

dont waste your time with a 10, go for a nice sq designed 12" sub, everyone goes bigger..

or just stop wasting time and get a 15 :D

The more air you move, the louder it is, so you have to run more smaller woofers harder to get same volume as a larger one.

But, sometimes 2 10" is better than 1 12" as overall surface area greater etc.

just buying a 12 is easier.

i have 2 10" in a sealed box. to my ear (which is what counts) sounds great. i was looking at 12" but the response wasnt to my liking as the 10" were.

my 4, 6x9's make the rest of the noise in my car. :mosh:

as sam said, 10" are great for music like rock

I much prefer 10'' subs ... it gives more kick, where as the 12+ subs give more of an .... Vibration ...

Thats what i feel anyway .... I had 4 10''XMAXs and that kicked harder than 4 12'' .. however the 12'' did give a higher DB and LOTS more vibration .. !!

The bigger the less responsive - in my books anyway. Are elephants fast? - No but they are loud :D

hmm lots of misconceptions, speculation and subjective comments here...

read up before purchase to ensure you know what you are getting.

essentially i would always recommend a 12" over a 10" (unless you are in VERY high end 10" gear and for a specific reason)

It's all about personal preference ... go and listen to some and get a feel for yourself, and then decide ...

But the box makes a big defference too, whether you want loudness, punch, or whatever ....

the box is the most important part of the install....

Yeah well enjoy your 'Pioneer' while I listen to a rainforest of animals tied up in my car.....

Bigger the louder (cone moves slower, displaces large amounts of air), smaller the more responsive (cone moves faster, displaces less air) - It's about meeting in the middle for the optimum balance which suits your needs.

Agreed. Do it once - Get it right. Generally sealed gives a slightly better response, but ported gives beter dB for identical subs. Sealed is also smaller than ported so if you are tight on space then you may need to consider sealed. If not, I recommend properly tuned ported.

But then there are other designs like bandpass and ABC boxes, but I have yet to try my hand at one till my woodworking skillz improve.
