My performance + questions

As you all know I am turboing my car.

Here is some important info for all other out there who are going down the same path.

You need at least a Link ECU (it does the job mint).

For me I whacked out a 50 hp increase just from the ECU and a good tune BUT there are some BUTS:

The stock injectors when producing around 170 rwhp are at 95% duty cycle @ 6500 RPM. They need to be junked. I am getting either 5 L HSV injectors or Ford - depending on avaliability.

The stock clutch gave up the game when producing only 30hp more than stock. This is a NEW stock sachs clutch. Would slip at 6000 RPM + . The clutch is getting uprated clamping and new friction material from the good people who build the NZ V8 tourers.

Now my goal is 300 rwhp (223 rwKw).

The fuel pump isn't even close to good enough for the task - I am going to use it a surge tank.

You will need a Rising rate FPR to keep the fuel rail pressure constant (around 50psi for those large injectors I am told is needed). It won't run rich/lean as of course it will be mapped correctly.

The TPS and MAP sensor looks fairly simple to setup - I'll be taking my car apart tommorow and will post pics of how HiTech motorsport made a TPS.

AND the worse part - I'd say for a FAST REALIABLE setup - don't expect much change for 8000 - 9000 dollars if you want to use all new parts. The only bits i'm not using new are fuel injectors.

I am not handy with electronics, tuning or fabrication - so other people are doing it all for me. All the basic mechanical stuff clutch brakes etc I can do with the help of gus which is probably only saving 1000 bucks or so.

For you guys with 250+ hp and heaps of torque. Have you broken any driveshafts/diffs/halfshafts yet?

What would the cost of say a sr20det or sim conversion run at?

I know its a different animal, but i would be interested, (for when my motor blows up).

Dude 200kw at the wheel is sickening! I would be worried about diff busting.

No problems for me.

You just need to be off the clutch completely before you nail it.

Looking forward to seeing it Andy :bounce:

Whats with the giant sig?? Plz Resize or disable for future posts.

What about your brakes Andy??

I can tell you now the stock ones are utter shite when your pushing 1100kg along with that sort of power!!

I drove mine once on the stock brakes, it was scary to say the least!!

Looking forward to some pic's.

Turbo Spec's??

Stock internals?? What CR did you end up with??

Geez it would be nice to pay someone to do all my work for me, but where is the fun/challenge in that, and Imagine the bill, eek.

BULLSHIT! There is no way your car has 164 kW at the wheels - thats the same as Cains car! You MIIIGGHT have 140 odd kW at the wheels on a spanking new motor that had a manual gear box. You need to dyno it to see it for yourself.

Glenn: 0800 RACEBRAKES are sorting me out. I'm doing brembo slotted all round with undecided compound pads + SS lines. I'll see if I can keep stock calipers. (I don't want to change my wheels)

Estimate C/R at around 9.5:1 (very hard to tell with what modfications they made to your head)- will be interesting to see how the headgasket goes. Lets face it I know i'm gonna be pulling this motor apart and going low compie with huge boost

:D

Its easier to pay people to do things - I know i'm not f**king it up then hah.

edit: don't worry glenn i know your a sucker for spanking new car bit + engineering porn. I won't dissapoint.

I will document the whole process to dispell some of the myths that the american sites have - i just don't see how some of them can run such huge power - but then again as damian said once

TURBO - FAST REALIBLE CHEAP - Pick two.. I'm picking FAST RELIABLE.

Its not a standard motor, the story of my life. A dyno is deff on the cards this summer, aswell as afew other bits.

Are you piping the air ducts for your front brakes??

For brakes that actually stop, and aren't Porsche items ($ling $ling Glenn), why not run MZ3 rears, E30 M3 hubs with E36 M3 brakes and hub spacers?

Or Willwood 4pot fronts with RPI rotors / hats and adapters.

I'd still have so much trouble believing that unless I saw a dyno plot. It doesn't go nearly hard enough.

The body kit connects to the stock brake intakes.

That is overkill -

the setup i'm getting will stop.

I don't want to 5 lug.

If you tread in the monkey enclosure, expect to have some faeces thrown at you.

Good luck!! Be good to hear about how it all ends up. Be a great read to hear bout how much everything costs you etc and the problems that you face for the others on here who would like to turbo there e30 (like me :) ). We can all learn from your mistakes, hoping you dont have n e.

Good luck

Bob Homewood really doesn't want it turboed hah - he is pleading.

"But it will die! I bet it will be in here a week after with a rod through the block"

hah

Hell i'm half expecting to blow up this motor - then I can build up a low compie huge hp job.

I'm by no means an expert, but if this is the case and the current motor is good, why not swap it out and sell (or trade + cash for the replacement)?

Or is this too hard with the link?
