My performance + questions

Just boost it! If you do put a rod through the block I'll trade you my 2.5 block for a dozen heineken.

hah i wish it were that simple - have to wait for turbo and wastegate to arrive before I can get manifold made which may take some time.

I've seen the fabricators work and it is just intensly nice though. So worth the wait to get it done right.

i guess this means your not using a "log" manifold anymore???

just spent the last 3 hours dummying up my manifold on a spare head i have and tacking it together .... you wouldnt really say it was " intensly nice " haha but it will do

so minus 10 kw for slushbox - what does the dyno list the transmission correction factor as on the printout?

what on earth plotted that dyno run - excel? :D

Well - it looks like turbo project could be a problem

The compression ratio of my motor after Bob Homewood and his crew have done the math is very close to 10.5:1 hah .. It looks like the 180 rwhp N/A route is going to be the go for this year and targa.

anyone got a 2.5 block - its time to start building a turbo monster.

I'm quite gutted actually :(

Oh well at least the car might actually finish targa if its N/A

NA is all good. Keep it real.

Go for response not power. Nothing like a super responsive NA. Just blip the throttle, mmmmmm

Gutted. Atleast you'll get plenty of practise with 180hp before going nuts with 300hp, besides, Ian seems to get along fine with his 2.3L NA.

As for turbo, what compression ratio do you think you'll go with, 8.5:1?

PM'd ya about my block.

I see Richards is back again for the Targa, shame it's ending in Hastings this year though, makes watching a stage a little more expensive.

Pretty big cash to go in Targa isnt it?

Have to budget around $10k for entry fee, tyres, accom, parts?

yep - thats not an issue.

My non-turbo side of the project is paying for it

waste of money, buy something that is already fast. or buy an e30 that someone has already wasted heaps of money on.

when you go to sell you will lose heaps

(i know from experience)

why - it won't be as fast. (etc slow 2.7 builds need the same work done to them)

I have already spent the money.

Who said I'd ever sell it?

im gutted for you, but i guess in the long run you will be better off.

stupid bmw's ( yes i do drive one ) but it does have its downs

you guys should be lucky your cars dont have leaks ?

when on earth did leaks spring in my car, i dont know but leaving a sweatshirt on the ground on a rainy night showed me ...... im searching for leaks and cant find ne thing.... just a whole heap of carpet that keeps getting wet

any way off subject there but i heard you people talking about injectors

whats the best option for hp gain in putting bigger injectors on my car

E30 325i, stock injectors i think, i wanna get new ones cause their old but i wouldnt mind adding a FEW hp to my car .... e.g. maybe some 540i injectors :P ? let me know what you think is that over the top ?

cheers

If its in the front floor pan, try unblocking the drainage hole on the drivers side of the firewall. If its blocked water fills up in the wiper motor cavity until it overflows into the cabin via the air-con ducting. Happened in mine - front carpet kept getting soaked, unblocked the hole and its all fixed.

why would adding bigger fuel injectors increase hp?

I suggest you go to howstuffworks.com and read up on some more basics.

Not over the top at all mate, in fact you should get 750i injectors, they are the sh*t in E30's, hell you should get a good additional 80 - 100 rwhp with that set up.

I was thinking of adding Dodge Viper injectors to my car, and see if I could crack 1000rwhp.

Seriously, as Andrew suggested, a bit of additional research will benefit you a great deal, and save you wasting money.

Cheers

Grant
