Transmission Failure - E39 1997 540 ZF 5HP19

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys - I'm a newb so forgive me if I've posted in the wrong spot.

Long story short was out with the kids the other day and the transmission suddenly and without warning failed - no prior symptoms - trans fail safe warning.

I couldn't pick up any gears so had towed to Euro Car Services on Auckland's North Shore. After a couple of days of trouble shooting it turns out its a DG Drum Failure and the tranny needs a rebuild.

Can anyone advise me on a good shop on the shore? Kaspa quoted $3k + GST incl a warranty for 18 months but would love to know any other advice. This is unexpected and is killing me in the pocket. From quotes I've got a 2nd hand box is around $2500 fitted so not that cheap and no warranty at all..desperate for help if anyone can assist

Sucks I know.....Thats a pretty good price & with an 18 mth warranty

2nd hand is not such a good option with these transmissions

previous owner of my car paid nearly 5K for a rebuild.

comes with the Territory im afraid.

Other option for similar money (less if you can do it yourself) is a manual conversion. would raise the value of the car as well

If that's a manual - I'll take one! Assuming it's not.
