A classic enthusiast from Napier finally signing up

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I'm Jeff and I've recently just picked up one of my dream cars..

This is my first BMW and probably my only one. I'd be more than happy to keep this with me for the rest of my life.

It's a '71 2002 that's been sitting in a blokes shed since 1994. It was gona be stripped for parts but the good bugger that kept it couldn't do it and thought it best that someone does it justice.

It's got a bung 2ltr Mazda OHC straight-4 in it for some reason. Either the clutch and/or gearbox doesn't do anything either. So luckily that'll be ripped out and thrown away and make room for something much more suiting..

Did someone say an f20c? Eww yuk no.

I'm thinking of doing a M42 swap and maybe giving it a tickle down the track with a turbo perhaps. Otherwise I'll be finding some neato wheels (best thought so far is a set of dishy 15x7 superlites), a front airdam and then fix up the few dings in the body, clean up the few spots of rust is has and giving it a paint.

You'll no doubt see me lurking in the For Sale section mostly, but will try my best to share my shining wisdom for you all! Cheers!

Jeff.

might make it a bit front heavy? id say M42 is probably your most fitting repower option, and they are reletively cheap too.

Welcome Jeff, what a great little car. Best of luck in getting it how you want it.

Cheers dudes! Yeah I've been doing my research on what I can cram in the little engine bay. I'd love to stuff an m20b25 or some kind of lush straight 6 in there, but I don't want to mess with modifying the firewall or the front etc. That would require heaps of work.

Quite a few people have done the M42 swap and there are off the shelf engine mounts from the states and other stuff that should make the swap easier. The M42 is supposedly the same weight as the original M10 these things had so it shouldn't mess up the balance.

Ultimately I'd love an S14 to install. I'm guessing finding one in the wild is near impossible?

I'll be sure to start a project thread when I get onto it in the next wee while

Nice looking car, good luck with it!
