Brent means to pump kero through the lifters to clean them. even with no plugs will a starter last that long?

While it's out and you haven't sunk much into it you may as well pull it apart IMO. There's a good chunk of cash you haven't thrown at it simply for the price you paid for it. Rings, bearings, gasket set, and a good look at the head itself wouldn't go amiss or set you back that much either I wouldn't imagine.

I'd take shortcuts on an engine I knew about, I'd tend to be more cautious on one I'd never seen running though. If I intended to keep it and use it I'd want piece of mind knowing it's going to last before I took the time and effort to swap it into something.
