I was seriously thinking about getting one about 4 years ago. It was 30k and in pretty mint condition. Black with a SS Super sprint exhaust.

It just left me completely underwhelmed.

Underwhelmed by a car that outperformed supercars in its day? Maybe you had the wrong goalposts ☺..

Even today my 20V is a ripping drive and devastating cross country GT.

But you need to stretch it and drive it hard to appreciate it's qualities.

And also not be biased towards RWD ;)

Nice, exact same spec as mine and almost the same production time. Very nice, Avus Blue is a cool colour, especially when clean.

Yep agree - in their day they were the ducks nuts, bullet proof mechanically. Yours is a brilliant example.

I haven't driven a 20v, have done the Turbo 10v & used to own the standard Quattro coupe, even that was a brilliant car to drive - very engaging - & easy to get in trouble with the law...

Yeah I think that was the problem.

Don't meet your heroes etc.

Buy these. Very well priced and are a great upgrade for the E39. Doubt they'll last long on TM for that price (don't worry, I'm not the seller).

Are these a straight swap-in for a pre-facelift car?

Where's the poor old Amarok? Best utes IMO.

Right here (and you're right - the best ute of all):

Should be as long as yours had preFL xenon a, which I think most M5s do. Easy to check on the build sheet.

You might have to splice a couple connectors as the FL ones will be slightly different. Half hour job max.

Easy. Well worth it. Hard to find OE facelift lights for less.

Looks like a very original and tidy car (the m5) i'd keep the original headlights.

Thanks and yes I've already decided to keep original headlights - I am a fan of keeping collectible cars as close to original as possible.

This car is definitely a keeper..........
