BMW E39 Tail Light Electrical Issue

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

After a trip to Tauranga on the long weekend, my back left tail right has been doing some funky stuff...

When I press on the brakes I get the reversing sound in the car ( gear will be in drive ). Error messages on the cluster "Check Brake Light" "Check Fog Light" etc etc...

I've gone into the boot and played with the wiring, just moving around and I can get the light to work - So at least there is nothing wrong with the unit.

Can anyone recommend a good local (Auckland CBD) auto sparky? I've called most places and they are booked up.

probably a burnt out earth terminal to the light cluster

So with that, I would need to replace the whole light?

Doubt it. Just check the earths to each cluster and replace the damaged wire. Check the fuses as well.

Make sure (when replacing wires) you use the correct gauge wire .. EG match the thickness of the metal part of the wire you're replacing.
