E46 M3

Recommended Posts

This is destined to be a long term project.. So I'll start keeping my eye out now regardless, and if anyone hears of anything, hopefully they have this post in mind.

I'm going to be fussy. I know what I want. And Ideally I would like to find that 'perfect' M3 for me - or one very much close. I have ALL the time in the world, and I'm not in a rush. Price would ideally be within $30,000.

The tick list:

- SMG Gearbox

- Under 120,000KMS

- Full Leather Interior

- Ideally NZ New

- Harmon Kardon

- Heated Seats

- Side Bolsters

- Memory Seating

- Black/Red Interior

- Rain Sensing Wipers

- 19" Wheels

Completely stock - unhacked springs/suspension/intakes/tunes etc

Colours: Any, par Titanium Silver, Pheonix Yellow. No Kiwi Green Interior.

The things I can let slide..

- Sunroof (ideally no, but will say yes)

- Business Unit ideally Widescreen, but can modify myself.

- Ideally Facelift - but I don't care if it's 02 if it's the one.

And hopefully the engine ticks over as smooth as anything, the subframe is pristine and my diff is good as gold.

I had all these options and more in my Carbon M3, and people question me and go "but why want them", well because why would I settle for anything less than what I had.. I'm not in a rush. I have my trusty Schnitzer steed to tie me over ;)

Currently on my watchlist....

Has been for sale for around 2 years now. Not sure as to why. Might pay a visit myself this weekend.

No conflict as different choices in gearbox

Feel free to PM if you wish to swap notes

Weird photos

Its actually dark silver with light tan/orange leather

Sat on another yard for long time apparently sold subject to pre inspection

Still a high spec nz low km car

The one sitting at buy right cars - higher km has more fruit + possibly 1 owner traded on a m5 - drives tight but I cant get there on smg - my bad

Its a Metallic Steel Grey, so two shades darker than say the grey you would find on E46 CSL, with a metallic eliminate, a really nice colour and easy to keep clean looking, way nicer than boring silver or hard work black IMHO.

The leather colour is called Cinnamon, its more buffalo brown than orange.

Hey Amber,

How did you get on with the whole insurance thing? I hope it all worked out.

My 2cents on your wishlist would be;

You could always replace the front seats on a car if it doesn't have leather/electric/heater, so that shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Same goes with wheels - if you find your dream car but it has stink wheels, you can always swap them for your dream wheels.

The stock stereo setupon the e46 is pants, and the harmon kardon really is not much better. Better to upgrade either stereo if you enjoy your music.

The headdecks are ok, but the speakers are rubbish, and the hk amp is pretty bad too. A front speaker component upgrade with a nice amp will beat the hk setup hands down.

Good luck - I'm sure you will find the 'one'.

Yeah thought about that:

But then what's the point of trying to find a wreck with all options, paying extra for them, fitting them, and it still not being exactly 100% like factory :P

HK is great, love it. Want that factory spec again without the fiddly bits.

Only thing is probably wheels - which I'm not fussed about.

But hey, if I can find a perfect car for say 28k vs paying 26k + 3-6k on getting it to the one I want; all the better!

My M3 is resting up until someone decides to do something.. Part it, sell it, store it, fix it etc etc :)

I edited my post to add a bit of info on the hk;

"The headdecks are ok, but the speakers are rubbish, and the hk amp is pretty bad too. A front speaker component upgrade with a nice amp will beat the hk setup hands down."

But if you are happy with the sound then don't sweat it.

The M3 on trademe looks pretty sweet.

Looking forward to seeing your new beast when you get it.
