Useful cheap (or free!) tools

Recommended Posts

Alongside the tools for hire thread, there are many cheap or DIY things that come in handy. List them here? Free is preferred, but let's say no more than $40?

I saw this today: http://www.gearbest.com/microscopes-endoscope/pp_229387.html

awesome. that'll put the proctologist out of business. $3-5k for a colonoscopy? Nahhh bro, got my android smartphone and one of these endoscope thingies eh. good curry the night before for a 'cleanout', half-bottle of JD for the relaxation, all good. My mates have promised not to post pics on facebook with this thing hangin' out my arse...

OK - this one is perhaps not quite so cheap, but it's not ridiculously expensive either. All the same, probably best to check you will actually need it before caving in to the collecting tools fetish.

Cheaper than the last item, the Sidewinder is a very useful tool for those situations where you want a ratchet but don't have space to swing the handle back and forth.

Prices vary (of course) but they're on Amazon for under US $35.

I like the look of the Tite-Reach. pretty handy - esp where you've passed the loosening/tightening stage.

I'm very impressed with the Bahco 'Go-Through' socket sets. not a gimmick; really handy!

Picked up a few of these when I was in the states.

The led shines through the hole in the socket so you can see in difficult situations.

I have a very similar set made by Draper. Originally bought for replacing the front shocks on Mrs M's Mk3 Golf, they've been very, very useful ever since. Only downside is that the head of the ratchet is, of necessity, quite large and sometimes too large to get into some spaces. Conventional sockets have their place, too. :)

They're cheap! And another of those 'right tool for the job' tools. Excellent find. If you have any spares, I'd be keen to help make some space in your toolbox. :D

That's quite cool and the 3/8" is impact rated too.
