E36 stereo

HELP Had new battery fitted & need the stereo s code , so pulled stereo & been in touch wiht BMW but the numbers on the label or bar code numbers or even Philips numbers dont match anything they can find . Is there other numbers somewhere that will correspond . I prefer to keep the car origonal ratrher than buy new unit

If it's original they can trace it back from the VIN I believe. But they should have been able to tell you that???

Have you tried here https://www.radio-code.co.uk/philips-radio-codes.html.

It appears that some units are coded to the cars vin number in the factory and can only be decoded by a main dealer if your lucky. While others are just coded and the code can be obtained by using a site like the one above. To do this it appears you could need the following info vin number off the car, radio make, model, serial number, bar code if present. It's a real pain in the arse and everybody want $$$$ off you to do it if you are unable to do it yourself it soon adds up. best of luck

Have heard of you take The top cover off the code is printed either on the circuit board or somewhere under it
