M20 Bolting up ring gear/flexplate

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys

Just wanting some info, I have a M20B20 automatic, Just managed to get my hands on a flywheel/flexplate for the auto and was wondering if there should be washers on the bolts that bolt the ring gear to the motor, it came with the bolts but no washers and i can see washer marks on the flexplate where it has been bolted up. On the BMW Fans site i cant see washers to me it looks like its just the bolts. If i used washers would this affect the balancing and could cause more problems than its worth ?

Thanks

I'd do some more research as I don't think it should have washers, as I haven't seen it before (haven't really looked at autos that much though) and the flywheels I've done have just been straight bolts no washers

All my years as a mechanic, never once saw a car with washers on a flex plate or flywheel. If you replace the bolts, use loctite and torque to specs, and you should be good to go.
