new2thisgame 5 Report post Posted August 20, 2016 Hi Team, I hope this message finds you all well, firstly let me apologise if there is an answer to my issues in earlier threads My engine lights come on when i gun it around 5k revs, i do not lose power, and when i restart the car, the light is gone. no codes on car or my cheap OBD Known issues with my car below I have had the code P1553 come up a few times - still trying to narrow down on this - maybe solanoid battery light has come up few times now, but still starts every time I just cant see why the above 2 problems would turn the engine light on, when i put the peddle down. any suggestions before i spend $280 on diagnostic costs with an independent BMW specialist? also i still have a warranty =) SOS p.s my 335i is a thrill to drive
aja540i 1906 Report post Posted August 20, 2016 I would be taking it to BMW and getting it scanned. No point trying to guess. Have you tried ringing around a few forum sponsers for prices to get it scanned?

Haitoman 110 Report post Posted August 21, 2016 3 hours ago, new2thisgame said: what would you suggest the next step to be? My money is on an them finding one of the evap fault codes. Could be a hair-line crack in a pipe that you won't find without specialised equipment, or if you are lucky a fuel cap that is not sealing properly. Then again it may be something else. Garett 103 Report post Posted August 21, 2016 I suspect you may have a camshaft ledge worn that seals the oil from leaving the vanos system at revs, once the wear a groove in the cam carrier you will need to replace the seal and the carrier. if its the intake side both the camshaft and cam carrier. Although there can be many issues that can cause this... above is the most common we are seeing atm. Id book it in to be checked with a diagnostic scanner that can give you some more information on the codes coming up first. A diagnostic scan only costs 45+gst here and you can stop in any time you like
jin108 25 Report post Posted August 21, 2016 Easiest thing to do yourself and first step would be to remove vanos solenoids and clean them
AllanC 4 Report post Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) Hey chap - I use the MHD tuning android app with my n54, it pulls up any codes pretty well, happy to try it if you want to come by sometime? I'm in grey lynn. Might need to be able to reproduce the code if it's clearing it when you turn off the car. I've just messaged the guy that makes the app to check it's not vin locked for checking codes (it's vin locked to my car for ECU flashing). He should get back to me by tomorrow morning. Alternatively if you've got an android phone or tablet just buy an odb cable and I think the code checking part of the app is free - just download mhd tuning from the android / google play shop. Cable is from trademe here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/tools-repair-kits/meters-testers/auction-1142954142.htm Sweeto! Gaz 1060 Report post Posted August 22, 2016 If you have a mechanical warranty then why not get it looked at by a specialist? Depending who you are with, diagnostic costs are cover once the claim is accepted.

AllanC 4 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 Hey Neil, Good to meet you too. Had a real quick google on the vanos stuff that relates to the 2a99 error, you could just clean the vanos solenoids to start with, clear the code and see if it comes back. If it does then get it looked at under warranty and pay the excess - If the vanos solenoids are replaced and then it's still happening then the cam ledges are worn which is what Garett said earlier. Here's a quick youtube clip around it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIRPtA93wxw - as the guy says in that, check if your oil cap is unusually hard to pull up because of vacuum into the crankcase.
