My545 25 Report post Posted March 10, 2017 My 04 545i is now running real rough. Started with just the odd what sounded like a miss fire when cold a couple a weeks ago and would soon come right and idle smoothly. Now it's constantly running rough, not 100% if it's a misfire, or running on 7 or what. I have tried cleaning the mass airflow sensor as one thing I might be able to do but made no difference. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated. I'm in Dunedin, if anyone here would be willing to help, yarn or suggest someone who may be able to help that would be great. I have just bought a K+DCAN cable to have a crack at trying to work out what might be wrong, but need to work out how to use that first too. Cheers Sam

qube 3570 Report post Posted March 10, 2017 Open them up and check the condition. I would do all of them and know they are all good than fix a couple to have a few more fails a month later.
Olaf 3321 Report post Posted March 10, 2017 it's the gehberhrenschitver valvugolpen. it's gefingerpokened kaputzezechtenarbened. Assume the position and open your wallet, buddy. /serious mode on Kyu's analysis seems reasonable place to start. What's a set of coils for the N62 worth? Oh, under USD200 for the new Bosch design, seems reasonable. Definitely no vacuum leaks? And your battery is strong and tests well yeah? cheers

Cheers, SuperCheap auto have coils and plugs for $1250, anywhere do it better than that, seems pretty high or am I just really naïve, ignorant and cheap? probably all three. I'm no mechanic or fool, but with a few YouTube vids are they easy enough to replace yourself? Cheers

For your Euro, you'll need a specialist supplier. First stop should be the forum's supporters/sponsors. As you're in Dunedin, you should try Milland. http://www.milland.co.nz - and they're right there in Dunedin! Euro Itallian are also said to be very good. I've often used www.fcpeuro.com - started buying parts from them 12 years ago soon after buying my Volvo. Seriously though, give Milland a call. You may find they have what you need at good prices. Hope that helps.

euroriffic 609 Report post Posted March 11, 2017 K&G McCloud up Waverly is the place to go with euro stuff. Bmw send a lot of stuff up to them. They'll be able to diagnose the issue without throwing money at guesses to what it could be. Did it come with much of a service history?

Cheers, I just dropped it to my local garage on Hillside Road, will see what they say on Monday. Will keep K&G McCloud in mind definitely. Has service stamps from new, no information just that it's been done, have thought about trying to get history from previous garages up in Christchurch. Something you will learn quickly with a BMW, is that unless its a basic oil change, taking it to your "local" isnt always a good idea. A good independent BMW specialist is the way to go. It may cost more in the hourly rate, but itll make up for it with a more accurate diagnosis and knowledge.
